Rising Energy Prices & Switching Suppliers

My energy company, Scottishpower, have just announced price rises with effect from 1st September, which in itself is fucking cheeky, retrospectively raising them!

But having worked it out (I'm shite with such things, I normally just pay things) it seems the prices are rising that much it'll cost me about £400 more a year gas & electricity combined!

I'm looking to switch, but need some advice. Found British Gas with fixed til 2012 is actually 20% more than what the new Scottishpower costs will be, but their EnergySaver12 will be about 15% less than the new higher prices will be.

I'm shite at this, I normally just let all my direct debits come out, spend the remainder on beer & that live off fresh air for 3 weeks, it seems I should start being more sensible!

Are energy prices going to go up that much that the fixed price til 2012 will actually work out better long term?

Is there anything else I should be considering?
