What?

Excellent point. What indeed

Apart from his first few matches, I think Riera's been unremittingly average for us. As a squad player he's OK, but as one of only four attacking players (five if you include Johnson) in our 4231, he just doesn't create or score enough.

I don't think he's been any worse this year. He holds onto possession well and can look classy with some nice touches and flicks now again, but his final ball is questionable and always has been. That's why he cost 8M instead of 18M.

Either way, in games like this, he's still our best option on the LW. They had very little joy down that side.

Bingo.

riera like yossi would take their game to another level if they beat a player and then looked to play someone in or release the ball rather than attempting to beat the player again or attempting to beat another player. there are no prizes give to the person who goes past the most players.

when I said 'his head's been turned' I meant his performances have dropped off because of the interest in him over the summer.

He was a lot better last year, that's for sure.

Wouldn't be surprised if the spat with Benitez has caused some kind of internal psychological conflict.

Unfortunately, neither did we.

Agree with the post though. He's a solid, smart player who was always going to start in a game like yesterday's.

Ha.

Reira was poor yesterday, he never took on his man. Ivanovic is a steady eddie type of player, nothing more. A good winger would have turned him at least a few times during the game. Reira got nothing out of him. I don't get too upset with Reira though, he is what he is, an average 7million quid winger. It would be silly to expect too much from him.

You could certainly see he hasn't played too much for us this season. His positional play was not up to the usual standard, particularly when they had the ball. His first touch seemed to abandon him, he lacked strength, and his efforts at attacking Ivanovic were half-hearted at best.

Drop Carra, Riera, Lucas... yet no word about our good ole Dirk who was by far our worst player yesterday.
Riera was quite poor, Kuyt was dreadful.
What about a "drop Kuyt" thread?

You can say one thing about Riera, as you can about most signings Benitez have made. He lacks pace.
And that takes away a lot of our attacking ability on the left.

We really need to add another top left winger this summer. Robben would have been my preffered choice, if we had the money. Before he joined Bayern. But somone in that mould, who can create something with pace and a direct approach towards the fullbacks.

We've been linked again with Ashley Young recently, haven't we? He seems the most likely to me, given all the regulations about numbers of Englishmen etc.

This season? He hasn't really. He does always *give a shit* though.

You see, we agree on some things sometimes 😉

Kuyt has been really poo this year. A couple of strikers goals quite a few missed opportunities and a complete failure at creativity which everyone has had more onus to produce cause of selling Xabi and playing Lucas in his place. I'd be very tempted to play this in the next game:
If Aqua is match fit I'd play him instead of Riera and change the lineup accordingly to get our standard Gerrard Torres partnership.

Reina

GJ Skrtel Agger Insua

Gerrard Masch

Babel Yossi Riera

Torres

Of course. But I'm what is known as a 'balanced poster', which means that I alter my opinion based on what I'm actually watching, whereas you just repeat the same shit whenever we play badly or lose/draw, and go very quiet when we're fantastic. Which is why people find you so irritating.
