Apparently he's got a knock.

And will be playing with the U18s until Jan apparently.

It never occurred to me that Plessis would ever be allowed to take a free kick, he just doesn't seem that type of player.

Impressed by Victor Palsson so far - he wins the ball and uses it well. Very composed. Ecclestone and Amoo are pacy enough to always look threatening.

Plessis sent off for foot up. Spearing on for Kacaniklic .

I thought it was harsh, two United players had their feet up that height for the goal and neither got so much as a warning.

Yes, and one of them was waving the imaginary card, too. It was just clumsy. At least the speed of our front players means we don't look a man light so far.

HT:1-0.

Is Palsson the skipper?

Full Time: 1-0.

Well, we outplayed the mancs tonight. Some of their players looked surprisingly poor. Macheda looks nothing like as dangerous as he did for the first team last season. I guess it's a reflection of who he's got round him but even when he's got the ball he's looked far too cocky and lost it.

Palsson looked really good IMHO tonight. Some fantastic challenges. Irwin was decent, Darby and Ayala very solid and unfussy, Mavinga made some very good interventions, Ecclestone (who really worked his socks off) and Amoo were bombing on and good to watch, Ngog showed some good movement. All in all a very encouraging, mature performance, and a great reaction to the early red card. Rafa was there, so they did themselves some good tonight.

Nicely summed up. I like the look of Mavinga he seems to have a decent turn of pace.

Yes, he's settled well, hasn't he?

I was a worried about him after he made a mistake on his debut (I think) which led to a goal, it was very reminiscent of Troare, but his performance today was impressive. Palsson looks like he could do a job in the first team he's strong, good passer and looks very assured. Whether he is dynamic enough to be a top player is another question though.

It's obviously unfair to compare anyone to Lawrenson, but Mavinga seems to have the same good judgement as to when to make a tackle, and he's quick. I'll look forward to watching Palsson closely this season - he's certainly got potential.

Every time I see Macheda play, I can't quite get over how much of a cunt he looks. How do Utd keep finding them? Quite extraordinary.

Anyways, as already said, that was a very good team performance by us tonight. The fact that we were down to 10 men only really became noticeable in the last 10-15mins or so when Utd started pushing everyone forward as we tired, so that's an achievement in itself.

I wasn't quite sure how Mavinga would fit in at CB because of his slight frame, but he's looks to be quite a talented defender and on tonights evidence, deceptively quick. I hope he can keep that level of performance up.

Amoo is another that I'm still not quite sure what to make of. His physique and athleticism is always going to give him an advantage over his opponents and at times, he did look as though he was capable of destroying defenders, but his approach is a little too one dimensional. He showed a good first touch for the most part and if he can develop his game, he could turn out to be a good player.

Ecclestone seems to have that class on the ball and I was very impressed by him today - works incredibly hard as well, which is good to see. He strikes me as someone who still plays as a bit of an individual, but hopefully as he gains more experience, he'll learn to use his talent to better effect.

Whilst Plessis ran about hacking away at people, Palsson looked quite composed and assured in the middle of the park and dare I say, almost reminded me of Alonso at times. I'd like to see him develop more of a passing range and see if he's capable of being a little bit more adventurous in his distribution.

Palsson seems to be a regular in the reserves this season.

Also, how were we lined up?

Thanks Macca and Ken.

x2

Some of our kids do sound promising ... Let's hope they get an opportunity to prove themselves in the Coca Cola & FA Cups.

I saw the first 45 mins and i think Palsson was the outstanding performer. He won all his 50/50's and used the ball pretty well. How old is he?

All the academy graduates looked reasonably good. Ecclestone's got a bit of a spark about his game, Amoo had the beating of the left back and Irwin looks like a steady little player.

P.S That weird looking manc number 10 needs a good kicking and that Tosic lad has alot of improving to do before he gets anywhere near justifying his price tag.

Nice one Keni, I'm fairly excited about this Palsson lad and Ecclestone, I'm really hoping we see a couple of lads figure in the league cup.

I think like this:

-------------------------------David Martin-------------------------------------
Stephen Darby Daniel Ayala Chris Mavinga Steven Irwin

Nathan Ecclestone--Victor Palsson--Damien Plessis--Alex Kacaniklic

--------------------------------David Amoo-----------------------------------

--------------------------------David Ngog------------------------------------

Amoo was playing wide right, but other than that spot on. After Plessis got sent off, Spearing came on for Kaka and Eccleston went wide left.

It's crazy how many players we have in addition to the eleven we put out last night. In addition to missing quality such as Pacecho, we've got deadwood like Flora, Simon, Weijl et al who surely won't see much game time this season.

Also, what happened to Duran? Is he still with the club?

I think Duran's still around, but the poor lad's already had a couple of cruciate injuries and god knows what else. I don't mind Weijl, I think he's far too hot and cold but he could still make a career for himself somewhere, but I agree it's high time we rid ourselves of the dead wood. There's a really encouraging core of good young players now, but we need a smaller squad.

It's a shame about Duran. I liked the look of him before he got injured - looked quite a good player technically. He must be in his early 20's now, so those injuries have pretty much fucked his career. Poor lad.

I don't know why I picked him out last season, but I couldn't help disliking Weijl. Not unlike Riera, he seems to be very technically capable and at times a few of his touches can make him look brilliant in isolation, but he's slow as fuck, has an arrogant / lazy look about him and is rarely threatening.
