Liverpool have beaten Real Madrid and Barcelona to the signature of Cadiz teenager Jesus Fernandez Saez, according to reports in Spain.

The 16-year-old, nicknamed Suso, will sign a five-year contract with The Reds.

After several months tracking the midfielder, Rafa Benitez made his move, with neither of the Spanish giants Real Madrid nor Barcelona able to be as persuasive as The Reds.

Cadiz will be paid compensation and, although a figure has not been specified, it is believed to be more than the payment due to the Spanish team to take over the player’s academy contract.

cool in a few years time, if he's any good, he can run off and join barca or real because he doesnt like england

It's a bit sad, but I half remember reading about clubs fighting to sign this guy a few months back. This might turn out to be quite promising.

Now we have God on our side, no-one will fuck with us.

I'm loving the negative comments about signing this kid - we beat the 2 biggest and most famous teams in Spain or even Europe for his signature. Maybe we can just wait a few years and if he turns out to be amazing, we can sign him for £40m instead from Barca who he'll no doubt be desperate to leave

Yes. How dare we sign promising young players. It's just not on.

After 10 years without a player coming through the reserves it's understandable why any 'young hot-shot signing is met by a distinct lack of enthusiasm.

And before someone throws Insua at me, nobody could say his first-team appearances this year were planned - Benitez expected to have two experienced LB's in front of him.

You think Shaggy or Robbie or Owen's arrivals were planned too? Injuries happen, and players step up ...

I don't know about when Robbie or Shaggy burst onto the scene, but I remember us bring on Owen against Wimbledon and him bagging a goal. I don't remember us signing a striker that summer but I was only about 10 so may be mistaken...

He finished that season as joint top-scorer and was a player everyone knew was coming through. Yes, every young player can have there chance, but clearly some get more of a chance than others depending on the regime. And so far in this one, the fans have a right to be pessimistic.

If only Rafa would start showing an interest in the reserves and academy. It might suggest things might change.

Employment laws meant Suso was not on a professional contract and also made it difficult for him to sign for another Spanish club, giving Liverpool the advantage in negotiations.

Cadiz sporting director Julio Peguero said the Spanish second division club had done everything possible to keep him.

'The football laws for players of this age are very complicated,' Peguero told the Diario de Cadiz. 'We have offered him a contract, but it didn't happen.

'The laws protect the players at these ages and we don't have any choice but to accept it. To another Spanish club he might not have gone, but abroad yes.'
