Redemption for LFC's Spain scout?

Luis Alberto (remember him?) is now a regular starter in the #10 position for Lazio, already got 3 goals and 6 assists in the league this season and is apparently nicknamed "El Maestro." Iago Aspas scored 19 league goals last season. Alberto Moreno starts every game at left-back for Liverpool and this fact doesn't make our fans suicidal. So maybe the flops were not so hopeless after all and we were a tad too harsh on our former Iberian peninsula scout Julian Ward?

One connecting thread of all these players, of course, is that they have blossomed far later than we needed them to – you could say Julian's fatal flaw as a scout was that he recognized potential too early 🙂

I always thought Alberto had a bit of class, he seemed to drift in games though, but he could provide some quality. I'm still not sure he's quite good enough for a big move, but if he keeps this level of progression, who knows?

Didn´t we also buy a couple of cb´s at the time who has done very well after beeing released/sold?

It didn't help that the academy and reserve games tended to be so slow and limp that their progress - physically, certainly, but also in terms of tempo and technique - was positively snail's paced. Suso, especially, could just arse around doing a few tricks and get warm applause for coasting through games - it was quite revealing that, when it came to training with the first team, he'd often be found asleep after sessions, sometimes too tired to reach the changing rooms before dozing off on the pitch. The reserve set-up, thank god, has finally started improving, but the reserve league still isn't great. If there's a lesson there I guess it's sending them out on loan for a couple of years to teams and leagues that will really test them.

Ilori? he's playing in the Championship for Reading. He's playing regularly, but it might be a stretch to say he is doing very well.

Nah no redemption. We don't scout players so they can have a career elsewhere we look for players who can cut it at LFC.

He wasn't good enough and Italy is shite now adays with only Juve producing any kind of consistency.

No doubt the slow pace suits him

Quite a few of us took some flak for suggesting that he could become a good player.
As Keniget says, wrong player at the wrong time. Wasnt given time to develop and wasnt what the squad needed.

Sums up quite a few of the transfers made during that time.

That video made Aspas looked like the best striker in the world.

At his level he's a decent player. In his first pre-season with us he looked pretty good at times, but that was in friendlies where there was no pressure. It was when the serious business of the Prem started that we saw he was way out of his league, without the gimme games you sometimes get in La Liga.

Gabriel Paletta (Milan) and Mikel San José (At.Bilbao)...but I see now that we bought them earlier.

Alberto always looked like he had talent just wrong player at the wrong time. There was no room for him to develop here.

In the few games he appeared in, his biggest problem was that he simply wanted far too much time on the ball, and seemed surprised when he wasn't allowed that. When you add in his complete lack of pace - he was literally statuesque - the game passed him by.

Quite similar to Sahin in that respect.

Totally unsuited to this league.

As for fucking Aspas, fuck him. He was shit and nobody cares what he does in Spain, the limp-wristed flid.

I liked Sahin. I believe he could have done well for us if given chances. Somehow I think Rodgers wanted to give that spot to Allen instead.

There was a lot of talk at the time that, when he did get picked, Rodgers played him out of position so he never really had a chance.

He's part of the reason Klopp's here BTW. While at Dortmund he palled up with Klopp's sons and they then came over to spend a school holiday with him when he was here. Apparently he brought them to a game at Anfield and they then went home and raved to their dad about the whole experience.

How does he deserve redemption? He picked players suitable for a different league.

Ha what? Really? Suso fell asleep ON the pitch!?

With regards to the scout, nah, no redemption. Not for me. As others have mentioned, he picked players totally unsuited to this league. That's a pretty big issue to factor in when judging a player, and he failed. If Aspas came back tomorrow (shudder), he'd still be the little 5 foot 2 fanny that couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Lazio is already a pretty big team, no? They've started the season well too, something like 9 wins out of 12.

Coates ? Isn't he at Sunderland or summat ?

He's at Sporting. And he wasnt very good either. Not much chance of making it as a CB in England when you have the same aggression level as the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz.
