It's pointless predicting which players will come in when we do not know the manager. Whoever does come in should be expected to: a) convince our best players, most notably Gerrard and Torres, that their future lies at this football club; b) get this side playing with a sense of purpose, passion and structure; c) achieve a top four finish in the league; and finally d) plug the gaping holes which exist in this squad.
Despite everything, I do not believe these goals are unachievable - although there has to be some acknowledgement that it will be a tough and testing period for this football club. And if we were to face another large scale injury crisis, a CL spot might become overly ambitious, because it's going to be impossible to address every weakness in the squad in one summer, because it's fucking riddled with them. I only hope that, unlike his predecessor, the new coach looks at our reserve team when considering what positions need filling for the first team. The two squads have to be linked to save money for he club and to make the youth system worthwhile.
Pellegrinni and Hodgson have always been two of my preferred candidates for the position, so, if the rumours are to be believed, I'm delighted these two are fighting it out for the position.
