Rank our current most irreplaceable players

Modo

Simple question, based on the current squad, from 1 to 5 ( 1 being the most important player), who do you think are the players who'd effect us the most if they for some reason were out.

My list:

1. Van Dijk
2. Salah
3. Gravy
4. Macca
5. Konate
--------
6. Jota
7. Trent
8. Szobo

I think Mo and VVD are the ones with the biggest drop off in quality. I'll give it to Mo as I think we'd still have a decent defence without VVD but we'd struggle to replace Mo's goals and assists. Jota would be 3rd if he wasn't such a sicknote.

Whilst Gravy is an absolute beast, we'd still have a good midfield with Slobbers, Jones and Macca.

1. Mo
2. VVD
3. Gravy
4. Trent
5. Diaz

Yeah, that's about it. Konate, Alisson, McAllister are maybe next.

Actual ranking?

Virgil
Salah
Konate
Ali
Kelleher

After that? Don't even know. Everyone else is replaceable providing we actually tried to

Virgil, Mo, Gravy - not only do we not have replacements in our squad, we'd be hard pressed to replace them in the transfer market too. Few players in world football who bring what they do.

As valuable as Konaté and Ali are, we've literally replaced them for large parts of this and other seasons. They can't make the list.

Jota isn't available enough to be called irreplaceable.

Diaz and Gakpo each offer something different but are somewhat interchangeable with each other, so don't make the list.

I think Gomez is a great shout. Without him we have to buy 3 other players and try to keep them happy.

At a push, I'd add Macca in 5th place.

VVD
Mo
Gravy
Ali
Diaz

Love the shouts for Kelleher and Gomez as not obvious but very well thought through suggestions. But im going for Ali, as hes better than Kelleher and over the course of a season saves us so many points.

Diaz i think is v important because he covers the whole front 3, plays a vital role setting the tone fighting for every ball - a proper street fighter - and i think his contribution to the attack is under-appreciated.

The top 3 need no explanation.

Our two best players are Salah and VVD so we need to be careful.
Trent, we won't replace. But as soon as Bradley has a couple of ordinary games, there'll be a clamour to sign a new 80M right back. There's a simple remedy to that; keep the one we've got.
The squad can cope with anything apart from Mo and VVD.

I think the general consensus is that it's Virg, Mo and Gravy. Seems pretty obvious.
That tells me that we've got a pretty good squad.
But I am surprised to see Macca not making the top 5 in many of the lists.

In two of the three games we lost or dropped points, he was either missing or had just returned from South America tired.
We beat Girona without him, but we were terrible. He's just as important as Gravy imo.

I find macca frustrating at times. Seems very slow in recovery and gives away too many fouls.

Armchair fans on a forum not understanding the value of Macca shocka. NOT! 🤣🤣

1. Curtis Jones
2. VVD
3. Gravy
4. Szob
5. Konate
I see most of you think my choices are funny - but I have zero doubt that we have the worlds best midfield talent in Curtis Jones. You may disagree and some of you have mental scars that convinced you that players like Tchoumaini is world class (I thin he is absolutely shit). Also of course you probably think Mac10 is much much better, but you fail to realize that his mistakes have cost us at least 5 goals since he joined us (facts), either from losing that ball by dwindling on it or giving away fouls in areas that have led to goals from free kicks. I put him at no. 1 because of highly I rate him as a midfielder compared to all other midfielders in the world.

To tweak a quote from a famous liverpudlian, he's not even the best midfielder in Liverpool

That's pretty decent but I'd shoehorn Alisson in at #3.

This applies to Trent too.

Probably true, although I have to admit I'd forgotten about him altogether. Which is what we'll all do after he leaves this summer.

We won't be able to replace him like for like but hopefully Bradley or someone else can be equally effective, if in a very different manner.

I think you nailed it in the first post. I'd just have Ali ahead of Szobo (he should obviously be higher if it wasn't for Kelleher being such a good backup)
