Randon and Bacca

LIVERPOOL have turned their attentions to South American duo Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon as they weigh up alternatives to Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
Belgium international Benteke was identified as the Reds’ No 1 attacking target this summer as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to add greater firepower to his squad.
However, Villa are adamant that Benteke will only be sold if a club triggers his £32million release clause and Liverpool have no intention of tabling that kind of offer.
The Reds value the 24-year-old frontman closer to £20million and are ready to walk away and pursue other options,
Colombia international Bacca and Venezuela attacker Rondon are among the names under consideration with both strikers currently in action at the Copa America in Chile.
Anfield staff are in attendance at the tournament and have been watching their contribution closely.
Bacca would be the more expensive option as the Sevilla striker, who scored 28 goals last season, would command a fee of around £20million.
The 28-year-old began his career with Atletico Junior in his homeland before moving to Europe when he signed for Belgian side Club Brugge in 2012.
An impressive haul of 28 goals led to him being named the Belgian League’s Player of the Year in 2013 and he was snapped up by Sevilla for 7million euros.
During his two seasons in Spain he has netted 49 goals in 108 appearances - including a match-winning double in last month’s Europa League final triumph over Dnipro in Warsaw.

Rondon plays in Russia for Zenit Saint Petersburg and the 25-year-old would cost around £15million.
The 25-year-old joined Spanish outfit Las Palmes from Venezuelan first division side Aragua FC in 2008 before moving on to Malaga two years later.
After scoring 27 goals in 72 appearances, he was bought by Rubin Kazan for 10million euros in 2012. In January 2014 he signed for Zenit Saint Petersburg and his 20-goal haul fired them to the title last season.
Rondon and Bacca came up against each other in the Copa America last week with Rondon grabbing the winner as Venezuela beat Colombia 1-0.
Bacca has also been making headlines as he was sent off after the final whistle following Colombia’s 1-0 win over Brazil and given a two-match ban.
He was involved in a melee after Neymar, who was banned for four matches, head-butted Colombia’s goalscorer Jeison Murillo. Bacca responded angrily by shoving the Barcelona star in the back.
The Anfield hierarchy believe both Rondon and Bacca would provide better value for money than paying £32million for Benteke.
Liverpool are also keeping close tabs on a third player at the Copa America - Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino. The Reds are considering a move for the Brazil international, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United.

The same links to Bacca and Rondon (plus Illaramendi) are in all the papers. Either we are about to spend the Sterling money or this is the old shot across the bows to Villa to cut their price for Benteke

I think it's more likely that we're spending the Sterling money.

I'd be concerned about spending 25M on Bacca. Approaching 30 and only really had a couple seasons doing it at the top level. It seems like an unnecessary risk unless he's viewed as the difference between making top 4 and not.

No to Bacca. He'll be 29 this year - I think that's a major red flag.

Rondon for half the price of Benteke would be a much better bet - he's just as powerful, but seems to more 'fluid'.

His career story:

2009-10 (Las Palmas) - 14 goals in 37 appearances
2010-12 (Malaga) - 27 goals in 72 appearances
2012-14 (Rubin Kazan) - 25 goals in 56 appearances
2014-15 (Zenit) - 28 goals in 57 appearances

1 in 2 over the last 3 years. That's an impressive record.

Bacca will be 29 next month, and has only really had a 1 decent season in the spanish league. So another Aspaz - fuck that.
Rondon is 25 but has scored 11 then 7 then 13 then 13 league goals - fuck him too.

Not keen on either at all. I'd rather have Benteke than those pair (obv not for 32.5mill). Austin is by far a better bet than both of these, and that's saying something.

Bacca is 28 and will cost 21 mill. I dont really see any problem with that tbh. He's ace and would be a great signing.
Sometimes you need that experience in the side aswell. You cant just buy 20-25 year olds.

Bacca is nothing like Aspas.
21 goals in 53 games in his first season isnt exactly bad.

I wouldnt mind Rondon either though. And for 15 mill at 25 years old its obviously easy to argue that signing instead. Has stepped up at Zenit and is well suited for English football.

I'm just happy we've moved on from Benteke at 32 mill.

He's played ONE season in spain, scoring 20 goals in 37 league games. So he's not played in a top league until the age of 28, he's not been picked up for a reason.

The Russian league has 30 games a season. So 13 league goals isn't really a poor tally. In 2013-14, the 13 goals came in 21 appearances, and in 2014-15, the 13 goals came in 26 appearances.

In all comps, he's scored 20 goals two seasons in a row, and as I posted above, his record over the last 3 years is 1 in 2. Stats need to be read in their context.

I'm scared we haven't, and this is just a ruse to try and get Villa to budge on the price. In fact, until we sign a very good striker I'll continue to be scared we're going to sign Benteke.

Yeah, I'm actually dreading this aswell. Suddenly thinking 26-28 mill for him is a good deal..

I have seen a bit of Bacca.
He is a very good striker. Mobile, clever, calm, good finisher.
Not risk of another Aspas at all.

Jackson Martinez turned down Milan. At roughly 25m he's the man for me

For me too. I thought I read that he's off to Athletico though. He'll probably go there and become the next in their long list of star strikers.

Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon are the two names on Liverpool FC's striker shortlist

Having been put off by Aston Villa’s £32million asking price for Christian Benteke, Liverpool are exploring alternative striking options.
Among the names on their shortlist are South America frontmen Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon, who have caught the eye of Anfield staff at the Copa America in Chile.

We take a look at the duo’s pedigree.

Who is Carlos Bacca?

  • The 28-year-old Colombia international started his career at Atletico Junior in his homeland and supplemented his income with a second job working as a bus driver’s assistant.
  • After a number of loan spells, the 5ft 11ins striker firmly established himself in Junior’s first team in 2009 and fired them to back-to-back league titles.
  • Came close to joining Lokomotiv Moscow before finally heading for Europe in 2012 after Club Brugge paid 1.5million euros for him.
  • Won the Belgian League Golden Boot and Player of the Year awards in 2012/13 after firing 28 goals.
  • In July 2013 Sevilla bought him for 7million euros and he scored 21 goals in his first season in Spain. He was voted the season’s best player from the Americas.
  • Scored in the penalty shootout as Sevilla beat Benfica in the Europa League final and then penned a contract extension to keep him at the club until 2018.
  • Plundered 28 goals last term as Sevilla finished fifth in La Liga and retained the Europa League. Scored twice in their thrilling 3-2 win over Dnipro in the final - earning them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
  • Made his full international debut in 2010 and played for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup. Currently serving a two-match ban after his red card for a flare up with Neymar after their victory over Brazil in the Copa America last week.
  • The Sevilla striker Bacca has attracted interest from the likes of Roma, Milan and Arsenal.
Who is Salomon Rondon?

  • The 6ft 2ins Venezuela international made his debut in his homeland’s first division for Aragua FC in 2006 at the age of 17.
  • In the summer of 2008 he moved to the Canary Islands to play for Spanish second tier outfit Las Palmas. After a slow start, he blossomed and his 10 goals in 2009/10 helped them avoid relegation.
  • In July 2010 he was bought by Malaga for a record transfer fee of 3.5million euros. His 14 league goals in his first season in La Liga kept Malaga up as he finished as their top scorer.
  • His 11 goals the following season led to Russian side Rubin Kazan buying him for around 10million euros - a move that made him the most expensive Venezuelan player in history.
  • After scoring 25 goals in 56 games, he joined rivals Zenit Saint Petersburg for an undisclosed fee in January 2014. He became the first black player to join the club since their biggest fans group called for non-white players to be excluded from the team.
  • Last season he netted 20 goals in 44 appearances as Zenit clinched the Russian Premier League title.
  • The 25-year-old has been part of Venezuela’s senior international squad for the past seven years and bagged his 13th goal for his country in last week’s Copa America group match win over Colombia.

Worth noting that there are only 30 rounds of matches in the Russia league only. Should also take into consideration the type of team he plays for. Champions, yes. But type of football... ...
[article=http://www.espnfcasia.com/club/zenit-st-petersburg/2533/blog/post/2422872/andre-villas-boas-preventing-zenit-from-realising-potential]At the first glance, Zenit's statistics are quite normal, with 52 goals scored in 25 league matches. However, 12 of them were netted in the first two games of the season, when the Gazprom-sponsored giants thrashed newly promoted Arsenal Tula (4-0) and Torpedo Moscow (8-1). As the season progressed, Villas-Boas' approach became more and more negative.

Despite having the best attacking options in the league, Zenit usually play extremely defensive football once they go in front. Seven of their 18 wins were achieved by the dreaded 1-0 scoreline, including the all-important away win at champions CSKA Moscow in November, when Zenit parked the bus after Javi Garcia scored an extremely lucky goal on seven minutes. While watching Zenit in the second half of that fixture, their time-wasting was farcical at times because it was so blatant.[/article]

2014/15
26 appearances, 13 goals, 3 assists
Zenit finished 1st. Scored 58 goals in 30 league matches.

2013/14
20 appearances, 13 goals, 4 assists
(He missed a huge part of 1st half of the season while at Rubin Kazan and moved to Zenit in 2nd half.)
Rubin Kazan finished 9th. Scored 36 goals in 30 league matches.
Zenit finished 2nd. Scored 63 goals in 30 league matches.

2012/13
25 appearances, 7 goals, 1 assist
Rubin Kazan finished 6th. Scored 39 goals in 30 league matches.
(He scored 6 and assisted 1 in 12 Europa League games as they advanced to the quarter finals)

2011/12
37 appearances, 11 goals, 4 assist
Malaga finished 4th. Scored 54 goals in 38 league matches.
(Diego Costa scored 8 + 2 pen for Vallecano who scored 53 league goals. Rondon was only 22 then, too.)

2011/12
30 appearances, 14 goals, 2 assist
Malaga finished 11th. Scored 54 goals in 38 league matches.
(Llorente; Soldado (1 pen); Rossi (4 pen); Villa - 18, Benzema - 15. All these players were playing for teams that finished in the top 6)

Plus his surname means 'Stupid Twat' in Japanese. A small point but a relevant one I'm sure we can all agree on.

Saw this rondon fella for Rubin v Atletico a couple of years ago in the Europa League, when they won 1-0. Looked fairly decent running the line for them that night. A certain Mr Falcao was even better mind, God knows how they lost. Id prefer bacca of given the choice though
