The Anfield Wrap reporting that Sterling will reject the clubs offer of 15k per week.
Fuck sake lads, just get it done & dusted.

As an aside I've read on Twitter that Jen Chang was the source of the story in an attempt to deflect attention away from the Jenkins story.

If that's true, give the greedy little sod more but add years onto contract ie. 6/7 year 20k per week if he doesn't want a 15k 4/5 year.

Offering him €15k a week is taking the piss a bit though

Surely we pay our players in pounds? And either way, it's nearly 13k a week if Euros, it's an extraordinary amount of money for A 17 YEAR OLD in his breakthrough season.

Fucking madness what players earn today. £15k is crazy for a kid on first season. Hate modern footy sometimes

We dont even know if its true, so I wont question his sanity just yet.

15k is more than enough for a 17 year old. Sounds like an agent stirring shit up to get more money.

He's already left QPR for more money, this really shouldn't come as a surprise.

Yeah it's a lot of money............he's pretty good though

Yeah, he's already got three kids to feed. In four years he'll have about twenty, maybe hundreds of grandkids.

It's worth an extra few grand a week for the academy.

That's right. They'll all be running around with poor Raheem shouting 'Steady!' to no great effect.

Just pay him. There's enough dickbags earning well more than him. Why let a genuinely talented player leave over a few quid?

Well one positive is that he’s obviously got himself a good agent.

If your club captain is giving out verbal titwanks about him every week, and he’s playing every game, then you’ve every right to see how much you can swindle out of the club. It’s not greed, it’s just negotiation 1.01.

What was Owen/Gerrard wages after their breakthrough season?

Not entirely unreasonable for a one of the most exciting young English (so expect to pay a premium for this!) talents to be getting 30K etc a season

A bit of context is needed here.

For all we know Chelsea, utd & even psg could be offering this lad 30/40k a week, we all know he's gonna be a fucking star.

We need to keep hold of young upcoming stars, not ship them off. I'm not saying just bend over & drop trousers, but let's be realistic.

Fucks sake, the lad played, holding the ball up against players twice his side in the derby this weekend. At 17. The last lad who did that went for 30m to utd.

This is my fear, we shouldn't be messing around with this one.

Just get this lad signed up, get rid of Downing and that should pay his wages for the next couple of years.

He's a first team starter. Forget about his age. He should be paid accordingly.

Joe Cole picks up £90k a week for sitting on the bench FFS.

The club will do it, but you don't leap in. You don't just have to control the player, you have to control the agent, too. They'll meet the price, but they'll do the right thing and keep it as low as they can. (And they can't start paying him the wages of, say, a 27 year old - imagine what that will lead to when he's 27 - you have to keep it down.)

It's just a bit of a balancing act . You need to keep him happy but also grounded , realistic and motivated . I mean what if the club give him a 6yr deal at 100K a week and he doesn't develop any further ? Everybody will be moaning joe cole style .
You'd like to think he has good parents and people around him who'll understand this but the chances are they won't and will be screaming for the big bucks right now .

Personally i think he should have a contract where it's written in that every 6 months or so for next few a review is done and if doing well his wages will increase etc. Although i doubt players , clubs or agents would ever trust each other to implement something like that .

Surely more contracts in football have to be performance related . I'm talking from players to managers to canteen ladies .It's amazing how many pick up insane wages no matter how shite they are .

Contract offers in football are seldom straightforward. I would be amazed if Sterling doesn't sign a new contract with us.

I don't foresee any problems with this deal but let's get real, his age does not come into it, we need to pay him a wage commensurate with his worth, and make him know he is appreciated by the club.

regards

I think i read that he only signed his first pro contract with us this time last year, so at least he can't just up and leave for nothing.

I think he might well turn out to be a hell of a player, a bit more composure in front of goal and i think we may well have a match winner on our hands, that run right at the end against Everton on Sunday was really fucking special and if he had had a little more sangfroid he could have put himself into the legend bracket....

Im really really pleased at how the kid is developing and as he is already a first teamer he should be asking for more than 15K a week...

I can understand people baulking at theidea of paying a child so much money but it's been going on for years, 9 years ago I used to teach a kid called Ryan Smith he was England schoolboy captain i think and on Arsenals books, the day i finished work in London Ryan popped in to say thanks teachers as he was also leaving school and informed us that he had just signed a pro contract on 7k a week.... nowhere near the first team mind you and nearly 10 years ago...

Its a lucrative sport indeed.

You can be sure his agent is reminding the top brass that Downing and Cole can't get ahead of Sterling and both are on 80-90k a week.

We've got to pay him what he's worth right now, 15k is ridiculous.
