Haha, well I'm optimistic about sterling, but less so about the team so far. Going to be a longgggg season I reckon. Need to spend a bit on quality.

Exactly. We all hope for more but at this point that'd be a success. It's like people moaning about the possibility of Suso moving to Barca after a few years, it's like they don't realise what a stunningly unlikely success story that'd make him.

Step one in this club getting back into competition with the nouveau riche clubs was to establish a genuinely effective youth system. That's happened. The next step was to believe in the players coming through, and encourage them. That's happening. There's no other way forward, in this context, so let's support it.

Because even if he's only as good as SWP that's still better than any winger we've had for years, and £7m for a good PL player giving 12+ yrs of service looks a good deal. Also, because he has every chance of being much better than that. But mainly what Macca said about the importance of the youth system and having patience with it.
