Uruguay striker Luis Suarez will face no further action from FIFA despite being caught on camera punching Chile defender Gonzalo Jara during a World Cup qualifier in March.

Suarez and Jara clashed at a corner in the match which Chile won 2-0 to leave Uruguay's hopes of qualifying for Brazil 2014 hanging in the balance.

On Thursday the Uruguayan FA published a fax sent by FIFA to confirmed there would be no charge for misconduct. "The matter in question does not require the intervention of the FIFA disciplinary committee and therefore the disciplinary procedure in question is declared closed," it read.

AUF president Sebastian Bauza said he hopes Suarez will learn from his mistakes: "It's very good news for Luis, the national team and for the whole group. We understand that from now on, Luis should realise that he will be watched from all sides and we hope that this experience, when added to others, will be useful, so that he becomes the player will all want him to be."

Last month Bauza insisted Suarez was being "persecuted" by football's authorities.

Suarez is already suspended for Uruguay's next World Cup qualifier, away to Venezuela on June 11, due to accumulated yellow cards.

If you grabbed my nuts, I'd punch you too ... maybe even take a bite! 😉

Well if his balls were grabbed then he's right to hit the fucker. None of the reports I've read have mentioned that though!

There's one clip that shows it ... I just don't remeber anywhere if it was a few minutes before the incident, or a 'Ola hombre, you grabbed my nuts, prepare to die' a few minutes later.

Where's the consistency?

Rosco - it is all about perception, punching is a man thing, biting is a - dog thing. Don't you realise that the image of football is ruined if people think that the players are like dogs and not men.

In truth - I guess in South America they are a little harder.

It really is inconsistent, in that the FA didn't charge Suarez for this incident. That would have pleased you no end.
Weren't most of us upset about the inconsistencies over the years over FA sanctions? What's FIFA got to do with it?

I remember being on the Kop when Paul Walsh cracked Kevin Bond in the face for spitting on him at the Dell. Caught him beauty. We cheered.

I've not seen the incident but if he's punched someone then he should get banned.

I have, and he didn't. He raised his hand to the guy but it was no "punch" - it was like Ivanovic's reaction when Suarez bit him. It was always going to be described as a "punch", though, because of who he is.

I take it Ross hasn't watched it then, before launching in with his usual laughable response.
