Good ! I absolutely hate it when players don't just encroach but end up 4-5m away when the shot is actually taken and refs just ignore it .
______________

The Premier League has announced that vanishing spray will be introduced in all Premier League games this season.
The use of vanishing spray was one of the big talking points to emerge from the World Cup in Brazil this summer when it was used by referees to mark out a distance of 10 yards for defensive walls at free-kicks in order to prevent encroachment and speed up play.
UEFA has already decided to adopt it for Champions League and Europa League games this season and the Premier League has now followed suit.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "At the Premier League we are open to developments that enhance the competition and it was clear from watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil that vanishing spray benefited referees, players, and all of those who watched the matches."
Mike Riley, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, which oversees top-flight referees, was an assessor at the World Cup and recommended it be adopted by the Premier League.
He said: "I saw first-hand the benefits of vanishing spray for referees, and for the game as a whole.
"The Select Group referees are looking forward to using it during Barclays Premier League matches next season."

They should also spray it right in the middle of the corner quadrant and tell the players to stick the ball on it instead of trying to strategically place the ball tangentially with the arc.

The only thing that grates a little is when they spray the U shape around the ball, it must be off putting sometimes? there is no need for it, a simple line or dot in front of the ball would do.

I guess it's perhaps to ensure the player doesn't shift the ball sideways to get a better angle.

That so drives me mad because it's not as if it gives them any advantage - most corners are still as shite as ever - but they all copy each other like kids. (The latest thing they do is to place the ball not on the penalty spot but right on the edge. I guess they think this gives them a slight elevation but it's odd that refs stand right there and let them do it when they used to be so obsessed with having the ball right on the spot.)

Hahaha I've noticed that lately too.

Another fad - though unrelated to this - is the covering of the mouth as the players talk to each other on the pitch. Some managers do that too. Really silly stuff.

I think they should spray a line parallel to the goalline an inch further than the length of the keepers feet for any penalty too.

That way it'd be exceptionally easy to see if they jump forwards (as they pretty much all do). If the ball goes in, it stands, if it's a miss or its saved they take again.

The keepers would soon learn to save penalties properly.

I was about to write exactly this. A dot, put the ball on it. Simple. It would def be off putting to have a fucking stupid U around the ball.

After the outstanding success the trial on Ozil was last season, it's good to see they're moving ahead with full use in future.

The keepers would soon learn to save penalties properly just stand there with their arms folded and let it roll in 😀

I dunno why but I didn't half notice the ref in the pen shootout last night. He looked further forward, nearer the spot, quite fat and yellow. Like a huge lemon had magically come to life and was staring at the players as they ran up.

Maybe it was just me.

Free kicks not exactly where they ought to be (but not closer) ? Who gives a damn, it's not likely to make any difference - they'll have as many now hit the post which would have gone it as vice-versa.

In the WC I saw many corners taken with the ball just outside the quadrant - really made no difference whatsoever so I had no problem with the refs ignoring it.

It's funny the way the attacking team seem to obey the line too even though they don't have to. Think it'll be some tactical genius at some point this season in a set piece where the wall gets pulled all over the place after it dawns on Skrtel that they can do what they want. 'Eh, lads...'

This is good news. All they need to do next is introduce microphones for refs and red cards/sin-bin for diving.
I think another idea that would be good is that if a physio has to come on or play has to be stopped for an alleged 'injury' then a player should go into a 'medical area' like a sin-bin and stay in there for 5-10mins to make sure they're ok. All of a sudden all this fucking injury feigning would disappear overnight.

Microphones for refs? Are you mental? It's bad enough having commentators and pundits already without the likes of Tyldesley having the chance to yack on and on about what the ref's just said. You don't hear the ref talking in the stands, you shouldn't hear it on TV. I sometimes think people would like football to be completely televised without anyone in the ground at all.

If you watch the sky adverts that's exactly what they imply. Their viewing experience is superior to going to the actual game

Sadly because of cost and distance, and every game in the world being hyped to within an inch of it's life, many kids are growing up now without a clue of what it means to go to any game. A real shame. I often think the atmosphere is a bit shit sometimes because so many people are used to watching it passively on a screen rather than being a part of it. Imagine spending your entire life thinking the build up to the game is not walking round the corner and seeing the ground, smelling the chips and the beer and the farts, meeting your mates, having a laugh, talking about the game beforehand, feeling the thrill as you go in and then up and out seeing the pitch for the first time, hearing the songs, having the banter, and soaking up the real atmosphere but an advert for a razor and the complete bullshit mutterings of a fucking twat pundit. Imagine actually knowing who the opposition players even are and knowing it is one of their's birthdays and they are travelling to Innsbruck on a midseason break on Tuesday. Fuck that.
Such a shame.
