What happened to Darby?
Wasn't he supposed to be backing up Johnson?
Suddenly this Martin Kelly fella pops up from nowhere and outshines him. Strange that Darby wasn't allowed to join the rest of the squad in the Asian tour and still got a new contract.

Spearing is closer to the first team it seems. Rafa has finally given him a chance.

Martin Kelly is probably our back up right back this season. I'm still a bit surprised. He's in the England U20 squad.

Nemeth and Pacheco impressed during the Asian tour but they still haven't done enough to be considered for the first team even though I beg to differ.

Ngog is improving. I believe he's much more mature than Nemeth and Pacheco and deserves to be ahead of them in the picking order.

San Jose and Ayala aren't ready to be considered in the first team.

Insua is our first choice left back this season.

I don't think any apart from Insua could be trusted with a run of starts in the premier after watching them pre season.

Saying that, I think the league cup should be solely for the reserves and youth this season.

I probably said it somewhere before, but I think Spearing will figure most often because of his versatility - you can send him on for 15 minutes or so in defence or midfield and he'll do exactly what he's been asked to do (apart from keep his long range shots on target), so he'll appeal to Rafa as a regular option on the bench. Darby and Kelly will both get the odd chance, but I really hope Kelly is trusted as he's a real talent.

Eggnog? He's ok I suppose in a 'last 5 minutes to run at tired legs' kinda way. Ditto El Zhar.

I really don't rate Darby, Macca seems to rate Kelly really highly and he looks like he has the physique for it, a bit telling that he didn't start against Atletico though.

I'm hoping for real improvement from Babel,Lucas and Kelly.

If there is, it may go some ways to 19.

I like watching Pacheco. Hes a proper footballer and I hope he makes it.

But he's not even especially fast. Apart from being tall and black, he doesn't look like a striker at all to me.
