Just a few observations.

These three games in Germany have been great for our youngsters, who will never have experienced anything like this before, and for players returning from injury. It was interesting to hear, it may have been Ince or Upson, say that players need 270 mins of competitive pre-season game time to get match fit.

Great to see that our first choice forward line is going to be devastating, again, and even central midfield looks OK barring injuries (wherein lies the crux). Henderson & Wijnaldum our starting pair.

Kent looks great, but raw and a little naive at times. Love his confidence.

Woodburn looks classy, superb pass to put Sturridge away and is very good, cool, in possession. Klopp may be right about him eventually making a midfielder than striker.

Ward was impressive in his one full match. I'm guessing Klopp will keep Mignolet and Karius but Ward must have impressed in training (as well as at Huddersfield) to get that opportunity.

Ejaria did very well yesterday, even returning from injury he was great in possession and positive in going forward and creative in the final third. I'd like to see him against a more open team too.

Grujic is a powerful midfielder, some lovely passing, turns like a steam boat - though he seems to have grown and is a very big lad, a bit of the Can about him. Will definitely get a fair bit of game time this season, more so if we don't sign another CM.

Gomez needs time, a very mixed bag but I have hopes for him.

Robertson much quieter vs Atletico but I'd rather he start at LB vs. defensive teams than Milner, who may see time in midfield this season. AA is our new #1 RB.

CB is very concerning, as we've all said all along. Klavan is OK for a #4 or 5 CB but we'd better sign VVD or we're going to be fucked over the course of this season.

Very pleased Studge doesn't have a side-lining injury but worrying he has any at all. Solanke looks a great pick up, especially for such a young CF.

All the above with the caveat that's it's still only pre-season all said and done.

A few of those on the outskirts I think have looked pretty composed and shown enough glimpses of having something about them, this being Grujic, Gomez, Klavan, Woodburn.

The games have been a good intensity to help us prepare for the upcoming season, but the CL qualifiers will also help to hit Watford at full speed.

The front three of Firmino, Salah and Mane is going to be great to watch, with a mix of Coutinho, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Hendo and Can in behind them. Keep 2 of Hendo/Can/Gini injury free for long spells (rotating in Grujic when required) will see us challenging in my opinion.

Like always we're one or two pieces away from a league winning squad and it's frustrating the shit out of me. We look so good upfront. But our defence is so fragile.

But thats a balance thing. We want to push players forward, including two fullbacks, and that leaves little or nothing for protecting the defence.

We fell a bit deeper towards the end of last season, and People were complaining that we didn't look Dangerous enough, but we kept a clean sheet for 5 of Our last 6 games or so.

It's called the Lucas factor...or proper DM factor...

Lucas or DM?
Us lacking a DM is not bull.

We don't lack a DM cause we don't play with one. There is no magic formula that says that if we only play a DM we will look harder to break Down, and still look dangerous when attacking. We attack as a team and defend as a team, and we try to outrun and outpress the opposition in both modes. Would a DM help us defensively? Probably, but he would also reduce our attacking strength. We can easily Balance the team to be less fragile defensively but then we will not run Riot offensively.

Having said that I believe Klopp and his team of coaches are pretty good analysing what to expect of next game and then tune in the team for what they are about to face. And that will continue to be a main strength for us when we have both CL and PL to worry about.

Like Glen said.
But if a DM isn't what we need let's just get a midfielder that can defend. That's it.

I'm not saying its not possible. But chelsea and spurs came 1st and 2nd and they both played with DM's and by no coincidence leaked a lot less goals than the teams that came 3rd and 4th.

Yeah. But they are boring cunts that I wouldn't pay a dime to watch.

City. Fernandino isn't your typical DM. He's more Keita-like.

When they won it in the 2011/2012 season they had de jong and yaya toure and 2013/2014 they had fernandinho and yaya toure. Both De jong and fernandinho are DM's. Yaya toure played a lot as a DM until they would be losing and then he would be pushed further forward very effectively i might add.

Gomez had some awful moments on the ball yesterday - i don't remember him being like that when he played left back for us under Rodgers. So i'm guessing its just a bit of rustiness. The real positive with him is that he might be our best defender in one on one situations and his pace means he has potential to be a good defender in a high exposed backline.

Whilst he's got clear room for improvement i'd rather stick with him at CB than spend silly money on VVD

Course not....nothing guarantees you the title. I was going on your statement about them being boring cunts as if linking it to them not leaking anywhere near as many goals.

You used the fact that they leaked less than others as kind of proof for them being 1 and 2 last season. I called them boring cunts, and they will not be 1 and 2 this season.

We still need a couple of more players. The youngsters have played well but cant relay on them if going on all 4 fronts.

I agree that a couple of more can come handy. But it have to be the right prospects. As an example I am not too keen on Ox as his inclusion might hamper the Development of Grujic and Kent without actually making our team better. We need shit good players... I was also very much reminded on how fragile Studge is. Can we trust that he is there to carry Our attacking line when Firmino is out? Both Solanke and Origi are decent back ups, but I don't want any of them to lead the line in tricky away games in Europe i.e.

Was annoyed last night when the commentator mentioned Kent might be going on loan to a Championship club. A fucking Championship club! What would be the point; he's 20, proved himself at Championship level last season and looks to be chomping at the bit. I'd either lend to him an EPL team e.g. WBA, Huddersfield, Burnley etc (I'm sure someone would be interested) or blood him in League Cup games etc and see if he keeps improving.

I have a feeling that if he were to be given a chance in a starting line-up with players like Coutinho, Salah, Mané, Firmino etc he would look the part.
