t has been confirmed that Portsmouth will become the first Premier League club to go into administration on Friday.

Balram Chainrai, Pompey's fourth owner of the season, has been trying to find a new buyer ahead of a potential High Court winding-up order on Monday.

He announced earlier this week that the South Coast outfit would enter administration on Friday to avoid being wound up if a buyer could not be found.

Negotiations were held with four interested parties, but the undisclosed buyers failed to prove they had the funds to buy the club by a deadline of Thursday afternoon.

Andrew Andronikou of accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young had set the deadline and will now act as the administrator.

Relegation

"We made a conscious decision to put it into administration tomorrow morning," he confirmed.

Andronikou will issue a detailed statement on Friday outlining how the club will be restructured and made attractive for a potential buyer.

But Portsmouth will now be docked nine points as a result of entering financial administration, which is a form of bankruptcy protection.

Avram Grant's men are already bottom of the Premier League and the deduction will leave them with just seven points and facing almost certain relegation.

Pompey would have to climb to 17th place, currently occupied by Hull City on 24 points.

Fuckin el. Got to feel for the Pompey fans. What happens next I wonder?

They'll survive. A lot of people will suffer because of this, but the club will be all right. As for relegation... they were pretty much doomed anyway.

I can see this happening to other PL clubs soon unless something dramatically changes.

I'm not sure they will survive Bunnyman, and if they do it'll take a long time for them to recover.

Administration was the only way they'd keep in business for the rest of the season, it was an inevitability given the embarrassment the PL powers that be would suffer if one of their members ceased to exist mid season.

They're still on the hook for player contracts worth 52m next year. They'll need to shift a lot of those players over the summer and they'll still end up paying something towardse the wages players they no longer have in the squad. Pretty much the way Leeds did.

They will drop and drop and drop, there will be relegated this season Grant will leave for sure as will 99% of the playing staff.
That motherfunk with the bell will continue to ring out though

won't they have to carry forward the points deduction to the championship if they don't get within 9 points of 17th place? that's the rule isn't it? so that'd be more problems next year.

just an example, i read somewhere that john utaka's on £80k a week...someone's got a lot to answer for.

That Utaka rumour was refuted recently, I think by Harry Redknapp of all people. He reckons Utaka is on 28 grand a week.

The curious thing for me is the Chief Executive who was in charge for the entire duration of the build up debt and overrun of costs is the very same fella who every new owner kept in as Chief Executive. What sort of contract is he on ?

is it true the points teams have won against pompy will be removed?
[/quote]

No, only if they're wound up.

As far I know they still have the winding up petition from the tax man to sort out at the start of March who last week were still looking all of the £11 million they are owed, regardless if they went into administration are not so there's still a chance they'll be out of business before the next round of the FA cup.

Storrie is supposedly on £1 million a year.

No.

Administration gives them Court protection from the creditors that are seeking to have them wound up. So they'll continue until the end of the season and get relegated.

In this case, and actually in all cases recently it's been The Revenue who have been seeking winding up orders because they're getting fucked over by football clubs leaving tax debts behind through administration. I don't know how but UK football clubs have managed to ensure that football debts get paid before taxes get paid in the event of clubs going to the wall. The Revenue have apparently lost about 30m of uncollected taxes because of this rule.

i suppose all you can really say in his defence is that we don't know what assurances/directions he was given by Gaydamark.
