Top 4 will be a great achievement. The league has never been more competitive. The key for us would be how we perform against the "smaller" teams. We never had issues in big games and the bigger teams will surely take points off each other.

3rd for me.

We are going to win the league..

Klopp will guide us to number 19...

(subject to Lucas being sold)

I went with 5th but in reality, I haven't got a clue, I don't even know what to expect, the way last season panned out for the top sides and given what Leicester achieved, who knows.

Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Utd, Spurs , Leicester and what Southampton, West Ham (who were what 2nd/3rd until Jan) and ourselves.

It's a cluster fuck and it'll hopefully translate into a super competitive/fun season but where any of the above teams finish is anyones guess.

You say 3rd yet when I cast my vote for 3rd it was the first one....

We will win the league because we don't play that many games and if we don't get a lot of injuries then we will probably play almost the same starting XI in every league game.

We have one of the best managers in the world.

Our main rivals will play a lot more games than us and because of the Euros that is a key point. Their key players will be very tired the last few months of the season.

Our gegenpressing system will be very effective the second half of the season when we play a lot of tired teams.

I don't want a super-competitive, fun season.

I want Liverpool to win the title easily, with no genuine challenger.

Sometimes you just have to settle for second best, not literally of course as thats still not gonna happen.

Strange timing for this thread. Hard to judge really until the window has slammed shut. Couple of big names either way could transform things, let alone what other clubs get up to.
I'll abstain for now.
Thanks

Since our fall from grace(bar the Suarez almost season) each year we had a squad that performed below their standard.

This year it seems that even our squad reputation is not top class.
In other words, 6th won't be a disappointment this year, we simply have the 6th best squad in the league, and probably worse than that in reality.

It's kinda a tough one, and the Managers thread has got me worried about the improved quality of opposition we're going to be competing with next season. City are going to get better under Guardiola, same for United with Mourinho and Chelsea with Conte.

I think Spurs and Arsenal will be right up there, and I can't see West Ham getting much worse. I'd expect Leicester to drop out, but that's about it.

So...

Rather than focus on positions necessarily, I'd like to see a points improvement as the priority. We finished the last 2 seasons with 60 + 62 points (I think) which isn't fucking cutting it. Given we have fuck all European football to worry about next year, and Klopp has had about 12 months to look at this side, I think we should be aiming for 70+ points.

Say we add 10 points, and end up with 72'ish. That's enough usually to get you a top 4 spot, but it might not this year with the quality of sides around. That's still a very good year and an improvement on where we've been.

We could feasibly end up 6th or 2nd with a tally like that, but it'd be going in the right direction irrespective of final position. That's something to build on.

Not sure why it's strange timing. We know the level of player we can bring in. The top teams can afford to buy Pogba etc. We are not going to be bringing in anyone like that. So we will start the season in that position.

We'll get 90+ points befitting our status as 16/17 champions

I agree with most of that however I have a sneaking suspicion that what we saw last year with Leicester perhaps wasn't a fluke seen in a broader perspective.

What I mean is, it may not be Leicester again next Season (I doubt that very much) but I think we might gonna see one or two not so familiar teams maybe compete as well - one might be West Ham as you mention. The gap between the good teams and the poor teams if nothing else was decimated last season because of what happened. Leicester of course, to a much lesser extent Spurs and West Ham all shook the tree well. I think we will witness this again soon, and though it might not be of equally insanely unexpected proportions still enough to make the league overall much more competitive.

Palace, Watford etc. are all paying big money for players, Boro have just signed Valdes and I believe we might see a lot of big transfers to clubs outside the normal top 6 bunch that we don't normally see. One thing is the gazillions from the TV deals another is the renewed faith in that 'everyone' can make it to the top with Leicester doing what they did last year.

Everton, with Koeman, could be one of those teams suddenly finding themselves competing at a much higher level, especially if they can land players like Witsel, Mata etc.

What I am trying to say is, that I don't think we'll have a Season where Chelsea, United and Citeh are just going to be in a league of their own. Ourselves, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham will/can all be up there too and I for one still don't think Leicester will fall out of top 10. Maybe they'll even fare better than that too but I'll reserve judgement on that until I've seen their final squad. And then we'd probably also going to see a surprise package or two, maybe not exactly winning it, but shuffling the cards at the top once again.

I've said it a few times already but I think that this coming season will be one of the most unpredictable, unforeseeable and exciting ones in a good while. (This is not the same as me saying that one of the usual suspects won't get back to winning it, but there will be many teams expecting to do well and push for the title).

I picked 6th but if we run this poll again in mid-August I'd pick champions. And after oour first game probably pick below 6th. The boom-bust cycle is getting faster each year.

No one actually thinks we'll win the league next season so why are the majority voting it? Unless they're scum fans on the wind up.
