Remember a few people being genuinely threatened by them.

They should defo keep Unsworth till the end of the season

Right. But I fear this kind of result will make that unlikely

That said, it might make Alan Pardew seem a viable alternative, if Zinedine Zidane isn't interested.

I wonder whether Rooney is regretting not seeing his time out as a Utd benchwarmer. This Everton move has turned into a bit of a disaster.

Their record in the EL - 5 games, 1pt and a goal difference of -11. Ouch.

I thought they'd be decent too.

The fact that Everton got themselves a "rich" new owner & their fans all celebrated like they'd won the league, let their extremely well regarded manager spend a huge amount on players for the first time in, well, forever, & then have the worst season ever, sacking that manager & replacing him a fat David Unsworth who is getting even worse results, is just fucking brilliant though.

Everton still being Everton is the best thing about this season so far.

Hahaha.

17,431.

That's how many fans were at the match.

"We go the game" is emblazoned on stickers on more cars than that. Obviously not then.

This 60,000 seater stadium they're building at the dock will look very very empty with less than 20,000 fans in it.

I like the way a load of Germans turned up in Liverpool yesterday to twat a load of Italians because they got beef going back years, but one of them got brainmonged by a bouncer and thirty Frankfurt fans nicked. In Liverpool. When Everton are playing an Italian club

I blame Ryanair

To the thousands who stayed away from a less than half-full Goodison: you made the right call.
Because while plenty of Evertonians opted for a night in front of the telly instead of coming here, the Blues aired their own version of Eurotrash.

What the 17, 431 in attendance tonight witnessed was Atalanta pour yet more misery onto an already wretched Europa League campaign with the easiest 5-1 wins against the weakest of Everton performances.
The Italians only needed to be in third gear against a Blues side that offered a pitiful lack of resistance that was in keeping with a calamitous campaign on the continent.
Sandro Ramirez scored his first Everton goal to halve the deficit with 20 minutes left, but what little hope (it was minimal) there was of a comeback was soon dismissed as the visitors scored three goals in the final six minutes to add a deserve gloss to a dominant performance.

Mercifully, plenty of Everton fans had already left the ground by the time this turned into yet another humiliation in a return to the Europa League that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Uefa fines, fights with the opposition and performances that have fallen drastically below what is deemed acceptable will define the Blues' European journey.
Caretaker boss David Unsworth was caught between a rock and hard place before kick-off – pick a load of talented kids and risk a hammering or select senior players to try and get something from the game.
Understandably, Unsworth went down the experience route but was disgracefully let down by every single one of the senior pros on show in yet another game to add to this season's hall of shame.
It's galling to hear that Everton have the third worst defence in the Europa League but perhaps what's more surprising is that there are two sides with leakier backlines.

This Blues side are about as good at defending as Philip Hammond is at cracking jokes (that's rubbish, for anyone who didn't see his budget speech) and they have conceded the first goal 15 times in their last 17 games.
Worryingly, Michael Keane joined Ashley Williams in running like he was having to wade through treacle while Cuco Martina continues to look like a lost boy.
Jonjoe Kenny was probably the only Everton player to emerge with any credit while Morgan Feeney was chucked on for his senior debut in difficult circumstances.
Kevin Mirallas gave up far too easily, Wayne Rooney's influence faded rapidly, Sandro Ramirez scored but was poor and Davy Klaassen was worse.
Tom Davies and Beni Baningime tried their hardest but this defeat wasn't their fault and it won't be those two who Unsworth was pointing the finger at tonight.

It was the senior pros he targeted in his press conference afterwards, saying: “If the players aren't hurting like I am tonight then they shouldn't be at this club.”
Quite what this evening does for the momentum he had started to build with the win at Watford and draw with Crystal Palace, only Sunday's trip to Southampton will tell.
Thankfully, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Gylfi Sigurdsson will return but the problem is Unsworth still has to pick seven other outfield players – and the bulk will have been involved in this mess tonight.
What this evening does for the caretaker's chances of landing the Everton job on a permanent basis, maybe only Southampton will tell as well.

While Everton's protracted manager search staggers like a drunk through a fourth week, a win at St Mary's may convince the board that Unsworth should get the job until the end of the season.
He was asked about the damage defeats such as this one to Atalanta are doing to his reputation but, true to form, it's only the damage to the club that concerns him.

Sadly, too many of the players he trusted tonight don't think like he does.
The scrap and desire that has seen them take four points in their last two league games was shoved out of the way here by gutless apathy.
Too many played as if they didn't care and were starring in their own video nasty – I'm an under-performing Everton player: Get me out of here.

I love the way that every time we fuck up, giving the bitters something to laugh about, they then go & fuck up even more spectacularly within 48 hours
