Playing weakened teams in the league

Whats everyone's thoughts on this and a club getting penalised for it?

For example there was talk about a certain shite team getting a talking to for playing a weakened side against Arsenal in the league as to rest players for the Europa league. Apparently it's wrong as it could affect other team's league positioning and that's unfair.

I believe it's a club decision. Their players, their games, their team. A team shouldn't be penalised because of how they may or may not impact a weaker teams position in the league. It's that teams fault for being there in the first place.

We used to do it under Rafa on occasions when we were really good in Europe didn't we? Or was it only cup games? Can't remember.

I think that the boring manager's focus on solely himself and his past merrits after playing a weaker team should be penalized though.... Special or not.... 20 years at Alcatraz!!!

If they're in the first team squad at the start of a season then they can be picked at any time. Entirely the club's choice.

Yeah exactly. It's perfectly reasonable for some fans, rival fans or the media to agree, disagree and/ or criticise, but it's nothing to do with any governing body

Was it Pulis or Allaryce who complained about Benitez doing it before a CL final?

Yeah. Fuck off.

I know this issue is raised regularly in the NBA. It caused some issues in the Olympic basketball several years ago as one of the big teams essentially threw the game away, which allowed a shit team to win and sneak through..

The only time I see it as an issue is if it occurs in a world cup group game. Throwing a game away can have such massive consequences.

Saying that, I can definitely see why a team near the relegation zone would be pissed off if their fellow relegation candidates got 6 points against Utd and Spurs in the last few games because they put out weak squads and stopped trying.
