Sure it's been done on here before. But I was just remembering Swindon. They had Ossie Ardiles and then Glenn Hoddle (player/manager) and Steve MacMahon.
Glenn Hoddle played for Swindon Town...
What about Edgar Davids at Barnet?

These are bigger but still...
Bolton had a load of mad ones. Anelka, Hierro, Campo, Djourkaef.
Middlesborough under Gibson/Robson was pretty nuts too. Ravenelli etc.
Who's the biggest name to play for the smallest club in modern-day English football?

Rumour has it that actual professional footballers have played for Everton, madness.

The thing that springs to mind for me is Blackburn having all those 'star' names back in the mid 90s, simply because the town itself is such a godforsaken fucking shithole. If you plonked an Arndale centre in Stanley Park, that and the surrounding couple of miles of Anfield is basically the limit of Blackburn's charms.

And yet that was the centre of English football for a few years back then. The Southern equivalent would be Chatham or Dagenham or somewhere.

Still can't get over seeing Cambiaso's name on the Leicester team-sheet.

He's also played pretty well every time I've seen him this year.

Tevez and Masher at West Ham were the biggest what the fucks I can remember because they weren't at the end of their career or anything like that. They were world class players coming into their prime.

I remember when everyone was amazed when Ruud Gullit (or however it's spelled) signed for the chavs.

Ruairi: good call. They hadn't sucked up Abramovich's squillions at that stage so it was an eye-opener.

10/10 for spelling Gullit's name correctly BTW.

*does that double-hand-shake-both-sides-of-the-head-with-.interlocking-fingers-thing that no one does anymore*

Garforth Town AFC - Socrates and Cafu

Admittedly they were well beyond their prime and it was a publicity stunt, but still ridiculous

When Jurgen Klinsmann signed for Spurs in the early 90s it was a bit of a shock. Basically he was good and Spurs (although not exactly small) were shit. I think he was only there for about a year then went somewhere decent.

Claudio Cannigia to Dundee was another one. If you are a good player but a bit old, sign for a Scottish club by all means, but at least go to Rangers or Celtic (which obviously he did after a few months).

If you extend to big name players who actually stay at small clubs even when they are in their prime then Matt Le Tissier at Southampton would be the best example.

this guy is trying to come out of retirement for the fort lauderdale strikers....

Bolton have had a few.
Djorkojeff and Hierro to name a few worldies.
Hard to find ones that weren't past their best though.

Kaka is set to play for the new expansion franchise in the MLS. From Ballon d'Or and Champions League winner with AC Milan in 2007 to playing footy in Orlando Florida 8 years later.

Woof.
