Pretty gutted to see him go. He was always a first class coach, but his ability to develop bespoke coaching programmes for specific players turned him into an invaluable part of the first team set up, and then, once Klopp realised how good he was, he became, in effect, the hyphen between the academy and the first team, working with all the best prospects to bed them into the first team squad. So just when Klopp's efforts to make the most of our youth prospects are really starting to kick in, we've lost THE great link between Kirkby and Melwood.
It was probably inevitable - he's been seen as a management prospect for a long time - and there can't be any hard feelings - he's a superb character who has the respect of everyone at the club - but this is a hell of a blow. I don't think, when he came, anyone expected him to become quite so vital, but his special talents basically created a role for himself that excited the management triumvirate. So much so that we'll now need to find someone else to do a job that really only Pep seemed able to do.
