The FA has today (Saturday) accepted the resignation of Paul Elliott from all roles representing the organisation.

This follows a conversation in which discriminatory abusive comments were made to Richard Rufus.

Elliott has resigned from his roles with The FA, as a member of the Association's Judicial Panel and as a nominated member of UEFA committees. He has also left his role at Kick It Out.

FA Chairman David Bernstein said: "I wish to thank Paul for his dedicated and unstinting work, particularly in the area of anti-racism. I am saddened by this turn of events and it is with regret that we accept Paul's resignation.

"However, the use of discriminatory language is unacceptable regardless of its context and in effect has made Paul's position untenable."

Anyone know what Elliott is supposed to have said?

From the Daily Mail:

Former Chelsea defender Elliott resigns from FA after N-word rant at ex-pro Rufus

The FA have accepted the resignation of Paul Elliott after the anti-racism campaigner called former Charlton defender 'n*****' in a furious string of text messages.
Elliott, a former Chelsea and Celtic defender, has resigned from his roles as a member of the FA's judicial panel and as a nominated member of UEFA committees as well as his role as a Kick It Out trustee.
Following a failed business venture involving the two The S** reported that Elliott, 48, texted Rufus the words: 'Ur (sic) a stupid man n*****', adding: 'You dog. Ur history my friend.'
Elliott, made a CBE for his services to equality and diversity in football earlier this month, also allegedly texted Rufus: 'This will follow you scumbag.'
A statement released by the FA on Saturday read: 'The FA has today accepted the resignation of Paul Elliott from all roles representing the organisation.
'This follows a conversation in which discriminatory abusive comments were made to Richard Rufus.'

FA chairman David Bernstein said: 'I wish to thank Paul for his dedicated and unstinting work, particularly in the area of anti-racism.
'I am saddened by this turn of events and it is with regret that we accept Paul's resignation.
'However, the use of discriminatory language is unacceptable regardless of its context and in effect has made Paul's position untenable.'
Elliott, who spoke of his 'great personal pride' on receiving his CBE, had been a trustee of Kick It Out since 1996.
Elliott released a statement via Kick It Out on explaining his decision.
He said: 'Earlier this week, a former friend and business colleague made public an SMS text message I sent him, in which I used a term which is widely known as being derogatory to my own community.

'I regret using it; it is inappropriate and not part of my everyday vocabulary.
'As an advocate of high standards of public behaviour, and integrity in public life, I know the use of this word sends out mixed messages and contradicts my position as a Kick It Out trustee.
'I will continue to be active in other projects in what I believe to be a true and just cause.'
A statement from Kick It Out read: 'Kick It Out extends its thanks to Paul for the key role he has played over the past 20 years, through his distinguished unpaid work, loyalty and devotion in helping the campaign in all areas of its work.
'His commitment to the aims and objectives of Kick It Out has inspired others everywhere.'
Rufus, 38, was forced to retire early from football in 2004 with persistent knee problems, just as Elliott had to do 10 years earlier.

Like seriously, he should be double fired for being stupid and racist

So it's not part of his 'normal' vocabulary but it pops up in a tweet? What a pathetic little hypocrite.

Joey Barton has been laying into him on Twitter. Apparently Elliott tried to sue Dean Saunders for ending his career despite it happening as Elliott tried to 'do' Saunders.

This needs an Epic Swindle-style book written about it, from Suarez to now. There has been so much crookedness, hypocrisy and cowardice involved, supposedly fighting against racism whilst actually discouraging any real, honest debate, it deserves serious analysis and critique. Elliott, Power, Clark Carlisle, etc, and a mass of outrageously dishonest hacks, linking up to suggest anyone who dared to question their position must be a racist. An appalling episode. Dave Hill, author of the great 'Out of His Skin', should do this as a follow-up.

Lol at the fucking douchebag. Hope joey barton ruins his arsehole.
Oh please, Barton should shut the fuck up, he has enough baggage in this area and so best stay out of it. I wonder what Barton would do once he has to quiet football, he's going to unbearable...

Because there's no need for anyone respectable to have to tear chunks off Paul Elliot. Joey Barton will suffice for that. Then somewhere down the line, Joey will fall prey to someone else. And that person will fall. In an ideal world everyone will fall leaving only Dantes and one last remaining douchebag.

that has to be his career gone as "first black footballer called by media for comment when a racist incident happens"

He ha ruined it, muppet

Everyone who comes to this country, be they footballers or tradespeople or businessmen, has a fundamental right to work and live in a racism-free environment. We must not lose sight of that. While I have sympathy with Suárez in a case which brought into consideration many complex cultural sensitivities, there is a duty of care to every citizen of this country of 62 million people which must be of greater importance. It must be our unwavering aim that football can be enjoyed by all regardless of sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability and gender.

Probably best buy a mirror, then, you cynical little tit.

There's something glorious and delicious about this particular self-righteous commentator's downfall.

I wonder how his friends and supporters from the recent past will explain it all away for him. I suspect there may be everlasting silence and some sideways shuffling about to occur.

It may give Elliott some perspective for the future but I'm sure he'll persuade himself otherwise.

Probably best buy a mirror, then, you cynical little tit.

The sentence beginning "While I have sympathy with Suarez" boils down to "I know this was a put-up job, but it was more important that a sacrifice be offered at the altar of anti-racism". It stank then and it still stinks now.

So powers argument is the the word isn't racist, it's the intent

therefore anyone can say n*gger as long as it's bantz and cool

Fucking twat.

So the intent behind the word is relevant in this case, but was not in Suarez's case?

Hypocrisy

Joey Barton has been laying into him on Twitter. Apparently Elliott tried to sue Dean Saunders for ending his career despite it happening as Elliott tried to 'do' Saunders.

I was actually at the game where Elliott lunged in from several yards away with both feet, from behind and Saunders tried to leap the challenge and ended up injuring Elliott which finished his career.

The biter got bit then too.

How this cunt still has the temerity to comment is quite incredible.

I do hope that we're not suggesting that because it was from one black guy to another, it can't be racist. That's a despicable cop out and also the term was hardly meant in a banter or as a compliment. Therefore its offensive.

I know campaigns are boring but its got to be worth highlighting that this odious little prick's position is untenable.

I'm waiting to read that he has had a request to return his CBE.

Im actually a bit confused on that one. He must have complained about something. Why did he make the text message public unless he was unhappy about it?

Made the text public to get revenge probably, they had some business deal that went wrong?

So, if this were a white player who sent this, then sticking the boot in is ok?

Black people calling each other the N word is nothing new, surely you have listened/aware of the hop culture?

If it wasn't for Luis/Evra incident, I doubt this would have made it as a topic on the general forum

I'm sure it is acceptable in the hip hop culture. But for example when I moved from west-side to south london, one of the things I learnt very quickly is that you have to educate yourself about what is and is not acceptable here. We have a greater duty to the millions of people who live and work in the uk who have a right not to be offended.
