I'm watching highlights of Liverpool's goal of the season since the premier league begun and he pops up so much while he was here.

I couldn't watch Liverpool much in those days - was in the US by then ... how good was he? Underappreciated?

as a lad when everyone picked the player they would be at football , it was always Berger ...........or Nedved

classy , could go round his man and also took a tasty free kick once or twice

The biggest problem with Berger like so many other Liverpool players was inconsistency and injuries especially later in his career. He could be world class in one game invisible in the next.
But like Luis Garcia, he was very enjoyable to watch at his best.
A dynamic player with a great shot.

I always liked Berger but yeah I think it's easy to just remember the good moments. The best was his pass to Michael Owen to to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final. Similar to Smicer, he deserves to be remembered fondly for that alone.

My recollection was that if Berger played Collymore got benched.
And i loved that Fowler Collymore partnership.

I know he was good but i still never liked Berger because of that

A good player, who could have been better still had he been handled properly. These days I find I have an inbuilt resistance to the idea of picking wide players on their "wrong" wing and I attribute that to watching Paddy Berger struggle when Uncle Roy, in his infuriating tinkering way, began to stick him out on the right.

Spot on. Roy was exasperating with him.

Scored some crackers in his time here and started like he was going to be a world beater. He came on away to city and scored two screamers then his home debut he scored two against Chelsea and in his 3rd match scored against some European no mark, taking the ball off Fowlers toe.

He got injured a bit and always played direct but with his head down which was his biggest draw back.

He did score a cracking free kick at old trafford too.

I had a soft spot for him as he was always a goal threat but ultimately not good enough and was headless.

I loved Patrik Berger. When the Czech Republic team got to the Final of Euro 96 (I was there!) the player who attracted all the media attention was Karel Poborsky. Poborsky signed for Manchester United but did very little at Old Trafford. Liverpool signed up Berger which turned out to be the best choice.

Besides his passing flair and his fantastic shots, Berger's biggest asset was his unpredictability. Defenders never knew what he was going to do next! That led to lots of assists.

He was a nice player to watch. Extremelly fine. Petty that we brought in Leonardsen who pretty much took his place. A fucking piss poor knobhead.

He was a greedy fecker who would look to shoot from anywhere inside about 35 yards out. Had the odd decent game, but way too few and far between for the skille he undoubtedly had.

I like a greedy fecker who is ready to have a shot. In recent seasons our forwards have suffered from the "after you, Claude" syndrome which always ends in a big defender booting the ball away.

Is he our best looking ever player? This requires a poll.

Redknapp?
Garcia?
Torres?
Berger?

I could never vote for Jamie Redknapp, because I am aware that eventually he will look like Harry Redknapp.

Berger is the clear winner. Mean, moody and magnificent.
