I'm not in the least bit arsed about the result, and was delighted to see Aquilani start and do a fairly decent job, but more happy to finally see Pacheco play for the club.
I'm a real believer in building through the club, my favourite model in europe is the Barcelona one, find good players young and progress them into the first team supplemented with top signings rather than a spread of mediocre signings to cover all positions.
I really think with Pacheco, Ecclestone, Kelly, Dalla valle, Amoo along with mascherano, torres, gerrard, aquilani, Johnson, agger etc we have a bright bright time ahead of us.
Course we need to make sure we get 4th though.

Maybe I shouldn't be but I actually am arsed about the result and I bet the likes of Torres and Gerrard are fucking fuming as well.

Tonight was about regaining a bit of pride, confidence and winning mentality, yet once again we are undone in the dying minutes - the same sort of shit that has put us out of this group.

We're in no position to be dismissing results. This team has forgotten how to win and it needs to start remembering and fast.
Ken we finished with benayoun, pacheco, aurelio and dossena in our midfield. It's nice to win but don't pretend we were taking it all that seriously. No Carra, johnson, reina, riera, and at the end no mascherano or aquilani either, it was always going go be about certain players and hopefully a decent result. As was said in the game, it was almost testimonial pace, at times anyway.
I'm never happy to lose but the happy of seeing torres, pacheco and aquilani outweighs the sad of losing a dead rubber with a scratch side in a competition we were already out if.

I'm not *that* arsed but I guess the point I was trying to make is that it's important for the team to start winning. The players have looked really miserable of late and with Arsenal round the corner another loss is shit.

But yeah, it was nice to see both players play. Torres was the big bonus for me and much like Gerrard against Brum, he immediately reminded me what top class was. I've missed it.

It's one of the things Shankly would have insisted on and we don't seem to give a damn about these days - show some fecking PRIDE. Don't give your sore-arsed reserve keeper and god knows who else a run-out - win the damn game!

In fairness to the sore-arsed keeper Macca, he was probably our man of the match
He might have looked it, whilst making the defenders look bad. I don't mean that as facetiously as it probably sounds, but I always feel a new keeper really messes up the defence, even if the keeper pulls off some good saves. I just hate it. I know I'm in a minority, but for me a reserve keeper should play a few midweek reserve games - that's how you're ready to come on at the weekend - not faffing about every two months in high profile cup games. The defenders will get all the flak tonight when some of it could have come from confusions over the differences between what Reina does and what Cavalieri does.

Bang on. And yeah it was great to see those two, but everyone should be concerned with the manner of which we lost, we were brittle again, and it's symptomatic of our season, regardless of attacking personnel, as a team there's little cohesion and virtually no solidity.

Great to see the youg lads get a run but f*ck me when are we going to start winning and look solid at the back again?

This is going from bad to worse.

Well, Rafa for one didn't look happ with the way things were going. I didn't see his poat match interview, but he really looked upset.

Having not being able to watch the game, so from this thread, Aquaman is not a dud nor a sic knote as I might fear?

Can we start to hope yet?

It was fantastic to see the young lad come on last night, and i hope we get to see a fair bit more of him this season.

Given time Pacheco could solve a lot of our problems and turn out to be a real positive in an otherwise dire season. He's a star in the making that could save us millions.

What really surprised me was how much the little man has filled out!

In my humble opinion the one definite is that he's confident.

Confident in his ability to run with the ball, to go past an opponent, to play a "Hollywood" ball.

Once he gets his rhythm I believe we'll see good things from him but we cannot expect Pele/Jesus/Zidane to appear when he's on the team sheet.

Haven't we got Jesus in the reserve team?

From what i seen at the game he's a totally different player and i think Benitez is going to have to change the system to accomodate him. Aqualani just doesn't look like the type of player who can sit deep and dictate play he likes to surge forward thread passes through. I just can't see him sitting back the way lucas and masch do. Although he seemed not scared to get stuck in.

So i would say we don't have a like for like replacement but he looks ok so far. Its only his first game mind fingers crossed he does well.
