Swansea V Norwich

Excellent game in prospect as both teams have a great chance of the 2nd automatic promotion spot.

It will be interesting to see how Pacheco gets on against the tightest home defence in the division.

Very lively start and a lovely feint on the edge of the box by Pacheco gives him a clear shot on target which the keeper does well to save.

1-0 to Swans, great free kick.

Full house (think they said stadium record) and a cracking atmosphere ....100 times more beneficial for him than a reserve game .

I keep banging on about it but we really have to try and get our decent up and coming reserve players out on half or full season loans to championship teams. Helps their development so much . They do it alot more in europe , let players go for up to 2 season in some cases .

The standard is excellent, there are at least 7 or 8 players out there who would look good in the Premiership.

I've got a mate staying with me tonight who's a Norwich fan, and he says Pacheco's been fantastic. Now that doesn't mean he'd do it at Prem level, but what it does say to me is that he isn't scared by the physicality of the English league - because the Championship is, if anything, even more physical than the PL.

I'd kinda given up on Dani, but what my mate said made me wonder if we shouldn't give him another chance.

Anyone who caught the game with opinions.

I thought he played well. Oddly we seemed to relish the physical challenge, but despite the relatively high standard of the game he did have a little more time on the ball, & one of the most important aspects is still missing from his game, final ball, just wasn't there.

That said he impressed nonetheless, he had people here & chatting in the back room whilst I had the game on in the front, & people mentioned the fact that they heard Pacheco being mentioned by the commentator more than any other name. He was involved a lot.

I'd give him another chance.

I said that? well after watching more of suso then I take it back, suso is in no way shape or form a wide player and neither is patches.

Neither is Iniesta, yet he quite often plays there - and is very effective.

[/quote] I seen the first half only and I definately thought he was decent.
However being decent in a top Championship side does not mean that he is ready to walk into our first team and be our messiah.
Aged only twenty though he has plenty of time to continue to improve and who knows, at some point he may become the player that we all hope/dream he will be.

In the meantime we are caught in a catch 22 with Dani.
He needs first team game time to improve but he needs to improve before he gets first team game time.
The loan at Norwich will hopefully do him the world of good.

you can point to others like houghten, ljunberg(sp) but if that type of player is one side of the pitch then it has to be balanced by a genuine wide player on the other side (barnes, pirez). currently on our right hand side is kuyt.

As someone else mentioned, in place of Maxi. I would believe if he's around we wouldn't need to play Spearing with Lucas in the centre. He can play ahead of Spearing too.

can you see maxi (if he is here next season) being dropped for patches any time soon? can you see pataches getting an extended run at left midfield (because not even a nuclear explosion could dislodge kuyt at right midfield)? if your answer is yes, then you're delusional.

I feel that under three managers Rafa, Hodgson and Kenny he wasn't given a fair chance to show what he can do. How many Premiership games did he start in 3 years? Not that many. I don't fucking know why. I highlighted why earlier in this thread.

Perhaps the best person to tell is Kenny. And to answer your question, IF Maxi is still around BUT the manager doesn't give Pacheco the chance to play how the fuck can he prove you, me and everyone else he is good to play for the first team? Fucking tell me.

I could be mistaken - though highly unlikely - but I was pretty sure the original point was "I" would give him another chance. The question was not "could we see him getting a run ahead of Maxi?" So, really Neil, there's no delusion involved - a question was asked and answered - then you went and changed the question.

I haven't seen Dani play recently but it would need to be a very strange question for a correct answer to be Maxi instead of him.

I think it's about getting into the mindset of the manager because let's face it, his is the only opinion that matters and I can't see patches getting an extended run anytime soon. there is too much competition ahead of him (good or bad) and that is before we bring in anyone new and if significant amounts of money is spent on these new recruits then they'll obviously be ahead of him in the pecking order.
he if we a left back then yes, I could see him getting a chance but not behind the striker or in a wide position.

Norwich were the better team in the first 30minutes and Pacheco was a focal point of their inticate passing moves on the edge of the Swansea box. He was always looking to be involved. Swansea got the upperhand after 30 minutes and Pacheco was finding it difficult to get involved.

Norwich again started well in the 2nd half and from the 50th minute to the 60th minute he was heavily involved and I would say he was Norwich'smost influential player which it was a strange decision* to substitute him after an hour.

Overall he was decent but Norwich couldn't contain the speed/width of Sinclair and Dyer and even though the 3-0 scoreline was flattering Swansea looked more potent in attack and deserved the win.

* It's difficult to criticise the decision by Lambert to sub Pacheco because Lambert has been hugely impressive this season in everything he's done with Norwich and I'm sure he had a good reason for it.

Skill and technique wise he looked easily one of the best on the pitch . He had some nice moments where he got the ball in tight spaces around the edge of the box then drifted past a defender to get into good positions , infact he probably should have scored from such a situation in the first few minutes . Apart from the the major thing is he needs to improve his final ball and choice in some situation but you would imagine that comes with experience .

But like Pesam just mentioned , Norwich weren't in control for large parts so it was hard for him to get into it sometimes.

In terms of his future with us , well so far he has played for Norwich in a free role off the main striker and I would say that is his favourite position ..he was drifting right , left and at times very deep to pick up the ball . But is he ever going to get the chance to play there for us ? I strongly doubt it and I don't think he has the pace or game to play out wide . So to me it looks like it he might prove to be a decent player but I don't know if he will get the game time with us . He'll need to take some giant steps forward if he is going to be so good that we cannot but include him in the team .

I agree with that. But I would buy at least two fast wide players this summer and drop Kuyt from the starting line-up. Doesn't make it any easier for Pacheco to get in the team, but it doesn't mean it's impossible either.

He just wanted to try a different approach. They were narrow and struggling to create anything so he opted to bring on another big lad, push his midfield up and go direct. Swansea defended very well throughout.

I'm surprised a number of posters have given up on him to be honest. He's still a young player with a big future. Had Rafa been still here, he would have gotten more games, Rafa practically guaranteed it at the end of last season.

Yeah I could see he had to try something new but by sticking 3 up front Vokes, Holt and Jackson I couldn't see how they were going to make chances for them because their midfield was immediately under pressure. It was a bit like Chelsea playing Torres, Drogba and Anelka against us - it was a mighty impressive forward line but when that leaves Lampard, Mikel and Essien up against a 5 man Liverpool midfiled what chance did they have in supplying the forwards.

Having said that, I would guess that Lambert has "slightly" more technical nous than me and his was the right move and as I said before it's difficult to knock him after the job he's done at Carrow Road over the last 18 months.
