Owen Blames LFC for his crook-iness

He is right on one thing though...the management team has been shambles except for a brief moment with Rafa employing some very good staff...then he fucked that up himself...

By the way, someone highlighted this point in another forum, so I decided to dig up some and compile my own scores.
Data source: Wiki (not the best I know, but it's still a useful reference for the ballpark figures):

What Owen says:
I have looked at some of the British players who I consider to be among the best to have played in the Premier League and totalled each of their games up for club and country prior to their 24th birthday.
380 - Wayne Rooney
316 - Michael Owen
284 - Emile Heskey
261 - Jermaine Defoe
261 - Steven Gerrard
243 - Darren Bent
201 - Alan Shearer
184 - David Beckham
147 - Robbie Fowler
123 - Paul Scholes
112 - Ryan Giggs

What my computations show:
Giggs was born in 1973. By the end of the 1996/1997 season (23/24 years of age), he had played 278 competitive games for club alone.
Beckham was born in 1975. By the end of the 1998/1999 season (23/24 years of age), he had played 207 competitive games for club alone.
Owen was born in 1979. By the end of the 2002/2003 season (23/24 years of age), he had played 256 competitive games for club alone.
Fowler was born in 1975. By the end of the 1998/1999 season (23/24 years of age), he had played 251 competitive games for club alone.

He also doesn't list Gary Neville (born 1975) at 212 (for club) by 1998/1999... maybe he doesn't rate Neville, which is odd, given he's probably been the best English RB of his generation. Even Nicky Butt tallied 201 for club (yeah, he's not the best but he was also a very useful utility player for the Mancs in their title-winning seasons).

Eh... hmm. Okay, it's all Liverpool's fault and his dearest Sir Alex would've played him less and lengthened his career by 15 years.

I think there are a couple of issues being conflated, maybe his injuries would have been lessened if he'd played less.

But his development was stunted by himself, he could have worked on the technical side of his game but he obviously didnt feel he needed to because of his early success.

The major change was a mental one. Before his hamstring tear he was so free from doubt and fear you'd often just laugh at how ludicrously cool-headed he was. After the hamstring tear he became an incredibly neurotic young man - he suddenly no longer felt indestructible and he seemed to carry the world on his shoulders. When he wasn't injured he looked as though he was worrying about when he would next get injured again. And every time he returned to the team we'd waste chance after chance trying to play him back into form.

That is very true Macca - He was some player though before the injury. I'm not sure I've seen a player who quite terrorised the back line quite like he did. I know it was for England but that game against Argentina in 98 he was outstanding. Every time he got the ball he looked like scoring.

I always liked Fowler more but Owen gave us some wonderful moments. Someone pointed out the Newcastle (hand rubbing) hat trick as well. Brilliant! I've properly moved on but I'm not going to forget the good times.

I saw his first game down at Wimbledon and you just knew he was going to score. And I mean knew it. He scores on his debut at 17, and he runs, picks the ball out of the net, and returns it to the centre spot. Most 17 yr olds heads would explode but he was as cool as you like.

I have many fond memories of him and his two late goals v Arsenal the 2001 FA cup final are among my finest footballing memories.

I remember that game - He was fucking special back then that's for sure.

I listened to that match while 'studying' for exams and thinking to myself what a lucky fucker he was as he's two months younger than me and he's scoring goals while I'm at home learning shite that I don't need.

If I remember clearly - after that tournament where he scored THAT goal, the following season at Liverpool, I think GH as manager and along with Roy Evans (can't remember fully), did rest him and he sat there on the bench sulking like a little shit, and everyone the press included was on the clubs case for not playing him more. I remember 'GH' saying that he needed a rest to get his focus back or something. So Mr. Owen - you were rested.

Uh oh, Moron is making a comeback versus Mors. This could be a titanic battle.

There is a lot of truth to it and I just hope we dont fuck it up with Sterling.... not that Sterling is in the same class as Owen was.... Robbie was overplayed young as well and he did his knee....

I dont care about Owen nor do I hate him even though perhaps he deserves it, he was one of the most unstoppable and exciting players ive ever seen for any team when he first started for us.... Even past his lightning best, which was something truly extraordinary just for his ridiculous acceleration let alone his full flight speed, he still gave us some great games.... beating Arsenal in the Cup final was one of my favourite ever smash and grab victories in footy....

Yeah ... he got greedy and ambitious.... whatever.... we still had his best years and play.

I feel sorry that his body was fucked and the 17 year old player died young.

Michael Owen has always been a self-centred twat. He's always looked after his own interest. Nothing's changed!

When he was reaping the rewards for playing so much in his early days, he never complained. He loved the money and adulation. its a bit rich to complain now.

He was quite fair to us though I thought and tipped us for a CL place.

Yep, he did. He doesn't help himself but the hystericals love to quote out of context to suit their own hate driven agenda against the fucking Welsh midget...
