Seems John W Henry upset a few fellow reds last night with the following Tweet..

Some replies

I'm no huge fan of FSG, but this seems a bit silly.

He's tweeted congratulations to a great NFL team, run by people he likes, after an amazing SuperBowl win

What's he supposed to do? Tweet well done to Chelsea or Hull?

None of the tweets shown here are offensive so I don't see the harm. It's not like he's a Liverpool fan anyway , we're an investment pure and simple so why should he give a fuck if the money side is going well.

Given the previous owners we had - he is a blessing. We have financial stability right now; in this day and age of football - that is as important as winning titles.

Yeah, this is fans being dickheads, and certainly not news, even by any modern definition.

Wow American tweets about an American sport.

Some twitter warriors need to grow up. Do I agree with what they are saying? To an extent. Was it the right time? No.

It's silly and childish, yes, and they presumably wouldn't expect fans of FSG's American 'franchises' to moan if Henry tweeted something about LFC.

But it does touch on a raw nerve, which is the fact that FSG have never seemed to appreciate that, even when you can't or don't want to be physically visible at a club, it's prudent to at least give the appearance of regular involvement at a club.

It doesn't matter much when you're winning stuff, but when you're in the doldrums it does matter quite a bit to some.

Ir's not just fans, it's visiting members of other clubs who say what a ghost town the place seems, with many of our execs based in London, the bosses based in Boston and only the now absent Ayre consistently in situ on match days. They should maybe give Kenny the licence to take more control on that side of things, and plan a few more visits from Boston - and not only on those occasions when it seems 'special' (good luck with that, anyway, this season!). For such savvy operators in the US they really seem a bit dim when it comes to what they have in LFC. Get rid of Mighty Red, get everyone involved on match day and show a bit of common sense!

I really don't know why anyone would give a fuck if John Henry is at a game or not. It's all for show, anyway. It's not like he's a lifelong Liverpool fan.

Sheik whatever his name is has only attended one game at Man City in 8 years.

But he's put in about a billion pounds and they've won the title twice and a few other cups, plus they now have one of the most famous and successful managers in the world in charge, and one of the most expensively assembled and best paid squads in the world.

That's all that matters, not how many matchday pies he eats.

Many don't, but some do get concerned to some extent when all of those involved seem to lose interest and bugger off. In a way it would have been better if they'd not been so prominent in the early days. As it is, they stopped turning up and even commenting much once the club failed to progress. Of course the main thing is that all the execs do their jobs extremely well, then all is well, but, when few if any are making much of a positive impact except commercially, then, odd or naive or foolish as it seems, some WILL notice the aloofness and take it as evidence that no one gives a damn and are just waiting to sell up. Very few businesses do without any PR, and football clubs, rightly or wrongly, remain very sentimental and emotional organisations to the punters, and these things can help in periods of unrest. I'm not defending it, just making an observation.

Twitter attracts some of the most strange and stupid people out there, who really shouldnt have an opinion about anything.

On match days the presence of the hierarchy of both clubs isn't entirely frivolous. You'd be surprised, over the course of a season, how much business gets done as they mingle behind the scenes during and after the match. Alliances get formed or strengthened, transfers are sounded out or advanced, Premier League and FA politics get played out. Think of what we've been discussing about Ayre's failings in such areas - it does actually help, in a subtle way, to have a proper presence on match days. It doesn't have to be Henry as well, of course, but at the best-run clubs the fans feel, in a Walter Bagehot way, quietly becalmed and reassured by such things, and, in a more Machiavellian way, it does actually smooth the process of all kinds of practical plans.

I mind that Linda's not there much nowadays. We always seem to do well when she is, and she's a darn sight easier on the eye than anybody else in the directors' box.

Has Bagehot ever been referenced on a football site before? 😀

You're right of course. I'd like to think FSG's selection of people to run the club this side of the puddle was made partly with this in mind, but I have no idea how good Werner's, or Hogan's, or any of the others' people skills are.

On the other side of the spectrum of course, Abramobitch is at every Chelsea game. The owners attendance really means nothing - money talks.

Well, as I said, when you're winning, everything's great, but when you're not... Money can talk, indeed, but it has gone pretty mute at Anfield as far as investment on on-field progress is concerned, and THAT is when such issues start to be significant.
