For some reason my old thread on Stu was locked

Someone in there said Osman and Milner were miles better than stu when I said he is no worse than them and they are 1st teamers in sides above us

Stu has 3 goals 5 assists now, Milner 4-2 and Osman 5-2. He is as good as them and they play for better teams

Downing deserves credit for this season as does Brendan for helping him.

We should keep him and see him and Raheem share a flank next season. Coutinho and Suarez can share the other side.

Glad my faith in downing has not been wasted. Loved his second assist yesterday
 
Downing needs competition because's not talented enough to justify an automatic starting spot, but he has improvement a lot over the last few months and is finally playing to the required standard consistently. Let's hope it can maintain it next season.
 
I'd much rather have a new signing playing on our right as first choice. Downing has done alright. But that's about it. Compare his performances to the other first choice attackers.. Coutinho, Suarez, Sturridge.
I'd prefer a first choice right sided attacker that's at those three's level.

Downing as a second choice however, if we can afford it that is, would be absolutely fine and we'd have gone a step further into creating a better team and deeper squad.

what about Raheem then if we get another winger plus keep Downing, he will never play

Sorry but they are a better team unit at the moment. I think we'll overtake them before too long, maybe even by the end of this season, and I don't think there's the overall talent in that squad that we have in ours, but they've been ahead of us in the league for two seasons now.
 
Super Stu has been great since Christmas.
Hes still a fanneh and rarely shows up against top half teams.
 
Stu has been good since November however his big problem is he needs to play every week so staying as a back up to keep squad depth will never work as he takes to long to gain confidence so I would say cut our losses and buy better in the summer or develop Raheem further

Hes not good enough to be an automatic first choice and he seems to struggle when left out of the side so its difficult to justify keeping him as he has a tendency to go missing for long spells and he should be rotated in and out to give Sterling more experience. If we could move him on for a decent fee in the summer and bring in an experienced winger then I would be happy enough to see him go. If he stays I would expect Sterling to have overtaken him by the end of next season
 
Yes. I think he was bought to be a steady Eddy, turned out to be a very unsteady Nelly, now he's finally the steady Eddy he was meant to be. Decent enough until we can get someone much better.

I've always tried to stand up for Downing. Even when he was shit, I maintained he'd come good. Now he's starting to. Just a pity it's about 7 years too late.

You are shitting me! Not hard to replace 😱 How many years has it taken us to recruit a decent, competent winger? He's doing ok now. Fuck the transfer fee, it's irrelevant now as we will never get it back.

Don't get me wrong, if we CAN get better then I'm well up for it but Downing has been pretty decent for 6 months now and if he can maintain this level my interest is elsewhere in the squad.
