Isnt it great.. ??

We have options, and not even one playing style.. Its a big two finger salute to those haters out there, that have accused us of only having one playing style..

Over the years we have been reliant on a certain set up, players and individuals to win games.. You just don't feel that anymore with this team..

We can bring players on to change the game, even with the injuries we have acquired our bench looks fairly strong..

Fabinho has to be first choice, he is a breath of fresh air to that midfield..

A midfielder that has a cracking tackle in him and can pass forward and play the ball out. He looks the complete package for a DM. and will only get better as he grows stronger in this league

Keita I love his runs and the way he takes players on.. This lad has no fear, if he can just get over the final glitch of losing the ball as he does occasionally, he is going to be amazing... Though that will come with time..

Options are great, but we still lack options.
Like many have said we need better in the forward department. Sturridge is fine(no homo), but we could do better.

We could do with another left back.

Don't forget that Ox will hopefully be back during the second half of the season.

Agreed - making some good trades (or being confident in the youth) across left back (Moreno out, someone either good and promising or trusted in) and striker (Studge out and someone motivated and threatening in) would make me pretty happy with the squad.

Thought Ox was gone for the whole season?

if vvd / front 3 are out, id be worried
One of the reporters on the blood Red podcast said before the start of the season that he'd believe we were genuine title contenders when we managed to win a big match without VVD in the side.

It's hard to disagree with that, despite the fact that we're obviously challenging so far, as that one player being injured could easily derail us.

I’m more worried about Moreno being our back-up LB. I’d love to buy Chilwell; then we’ll have not one but two flying LBs to make Mourinho’s head spin.

Have you seen other teams' backup CBs ? City's for example ? I am not too concerned with the quality of our reserve CBs, both Lovren and Matip have high ceilings but lack consistency, that's fine as CB #3 and CB #4. At least with VvD and Gomez we now have two superb CBs .. which other team in the PL can match our four ?

Ditto GK. Not only one of the best keepers in the world and top two in the PL but a decent and experienced backup, which Ming is despite his occasional howler (as all keepers have in them).

Fuck Chilwell and £100 mill they'll as for him.
I'd rather get a relegated Sessegnon.
Now there's a really young player with attacking abilities.

LB is a weakness with Moreno but we also have Millie so it's not like we don't have anyone. @gkmacca - anyone in the U23s ?

Well, yes, sort of. Adam Lewis. He's just turned 19, I think, and is a real prospect. He's captained teams at past levels, he's progressed really consistently, he's very smart, very polished, and last season he became one of Gerrard's favourite young players (in fact I was surprised he didn't take him on loan to Rangers). I only say 'sort of' because there's a Sessegnon ambiguity about where his future lies - he seems just a bit too 'interesting' and creative to stay at LB, where he usually plays now, and he might well turn out in a couple of years to merit a place on the left of midfield. But at present, yes, he's a player who is already being monitored for the first team squad. At levels below him, however, no, I don't see, so far, any strong prospects.

This is what Gerrard said about Adam Lewis last year:

“If Adam can keep this consistency up I don’t think he’ll be around this team for much longer. I want to keep him for as long as I can, but for me, he’s such a threat on the left side. Going forward, I haven’t seen anyone as good as him at that age, in terms of quality and what he can deliver in the final third.”

I always presumed the reason we were holding on to Moreno was we were trying to sign Sessegnon and it seemed pointless getting rid when we didn't know if/when we could sign him.

What happened to the young Spanish LB we got from Barcelona?

I think City are going after Chilwell as Mendy appears to be constantly injured.

He'd be a great signing but with Robertson now here, it's a transfer that doesn't really fit for either party.

As for depth, I don't know. We have options in some areas but in others we're very light. A couple injuries to the wrong players and our season is done.

Wow. He looks some player. Reminiscent of Robertson in some ways (maybe just his stature influencing that opinion) but that was some FK goal from the RW - what a goal. And he can take corners !
