Shaggy and Digger ... if we had those two in their prime on our wings the last few years, we'd have been the best team in the world.

Barnes, Whelan, Heighway and Ray Kennedy were all exceptional players - Barnes just has to be one selection, the other...........probably Kennedy marginally ahead of Whelan with Heighway a close 4th.

Indeed.

I see Avatar is now listed in many "Top 20 films of all time" lists and the same problem exists here i.e. young people know fuck-all.

Why two votes? Also, why is there no Liddell or are you planning to put him in the strikers list?

That's a little harsh. It stands to reason that, to a large extent, people are going to call on their own experiences in these polls. It just so happens that youngsters have far less experience when it comes to watching Liverpool greats.

True, but one could perhaps argue that they could take an interest in learning more about something they hadnt experienced.

It's fairly difficult to watch any coverage pre 90s due to the whole Sky thing coming in and football being everywhere. I have seen the odd game, sure, but it's hard to form good opinions on players you can barely ever watch, and for that i'm going for Barnes and Mcmanaman.

I never saw Billy Liddell Del but I'd put him ahead of Heskey, by the same token the 20-somethings on here must know that Phil Thompson was significantly more talented and more important than Razor fucking Ruddock..

Things will get complicated going down that route anyway. Clearly Liddell was probably better than the majority if not all of these choices.

So how far do you go? Elisha Scott? I see Ron Yeats isn't on the CB one, and I doubt Hunt will get many votes on the strikers one.

3 votes for Ray Kennedy? Fuck me.
[/quote]

Perversely Heighway who was his predecessor got 4 times more votes so this is not due to the youth-vote. I love Steve Heighway but it's difficult to make a case for him being more influential than Ray Kennedy who IMO is 2nd only to Digger for the wide left berth.

Yep, his conversion from striker to midfielder was a masterstroke by Paisley. One of many.

Well, yeah, but those are quite extreme examples. If you've seen someone play week in, week out, for several years, they're likely to leave a more lasting impression on you than someone you've seen only a handful of times on some old videos.

The discrepancies owe as much to generational differences, as they do to young people being stupid.

You're forgetting the most important factor Del, I'm 47 and therefore moaning about young people is no longer optional.

Haha.

In contrast to one or two other positions, can I say how much I do agree with you about this. I'm not altogether sure why we're voting for two but, given that we are, it's Barnes and Ray Kennedy all day long IMO.

I liked Kennedy's goal celebrations as well. He'd score a stupendously important goal (St. Etienne, Bayern, etc) and just raise his arm and do a little jump in the air. Quality.
