Ominous October

Is anyone else beginning to get a very bad feeling about this month? Torres, Gerrard and Kuyt all picking up injuries in their international fixtures, and the first two not being released till after tomorrow's matches... games to come away at in-form Sunderland, home to in-form Lyon, home to Manchester United (who, despite not playing brilliantly, have already beaten Arsenal and Man City), away at Arsenal's kids in the Carling Cup, and away at Fulham three days later... persistent rumours that Mascherano wants to leave in January, and still no sign of Aquilani on a football pitch... and, yet again, off-field distractions over our ownership...

I desperately want to be optimistic, but all it would take is a bad run of results this month and we could be basically out of contention in three of the four competitions we enter each season - including the big two of the PL and the CL. Am I being alarmist, or does anyone else have that ominous feeling about October?

No reason to fear only one is the cup game against the arse I don't care what happens in that to be honest.
Come on you reds YNWA

The problem with those cup games is that it becomes part of your form. If we're playing shit before it and then take a beating, it can effect the squads confidence (I know it's the Mickey Mouse Cup). We need a win at Sunderland, which I think will be a tough game. Win there and we can push on.

people always go on about gerrard and torres but nearly when they are injuried fringe player take extra responsibility, almost like they feel the star players aren't there to bail them out. a good example was manu (home) and chelsea (away) last season. you only had to look at chelsea this season to see people were waiting for gerrard and torres to do something.

The Manchester United game is looming large in my thoughts.

I think a defeat would be the final nail in the coffin of our challenge already! and the worst part is the mancs would like nothing more than to deliver the blow. I dont want to see any dancing mancs with big grins.

I hope we can beat them and then take advantage of the momentum it would provide.

We can do it, we can do it for sure.

It wouldnt be exciting to win if you didnt have the opportunity to lose.

Everythings seems shit, some tough games coming up etc, misery in the boardroom, all of these things will make our victory sweeter.

Oh and Aquilani will be the fucking mutts nutts you watch.... never really seen him much and wish we still had his predecessor in there but fuck that... he will be magic and we will win the league.

FACT.

I think we had a guy called Alonso playing in those games though. From what I've seen this season, without Gerrard and Torres we are truly in the manure.

Alonso was not our sole player in those games, and to forget the impact others had does them a great disservice

We'll shit em

No, we will win all five games mentioned and all the "Crisis at Anfield" bollocks will vanish.

At first I was afraid, I was petrified

Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side

But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong

And I grew strong and I learned how to get along

And so you're back from outer space

I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face

I should have changed that stupid lock, I should have made you leave your key

If I'd have known for just one second you'd be back to bother me

Go on now go, walk out the door, just turn around now, you're not welcome anymore

Weren't you to one who tried to hurt me with goodbye, did you think I'd crumble?

Did you think I'd just lay down and die? Oh no not I, I will survive

Bah. Torres and Gerrard won't play the next internationals. Kuyt's injury isn't bad at all. All 3 of them can play.

In-form Sunderland? In-form Lyon? We'll batter them. Manchester? Fuck them, they're shitting bricks already, I bet. Fuck the Carling Cup too.

October will be the month in which we lay the foundations for No. 19! Hoooray!

A bit like we did last year, beat them home and away, in the end it made no difference. It's the Sunderland game that we need to get right. If we can win the games against Sunderland, Fulham and scrap a draw against Man U I would take that right now,

No way. We HAVE to beat United. Given that they're already five points ahead of us, a draw at Anfield would be like a win for them.

Hurray! I've finally shaken off that Optimist tag! Well top 3 anyway 😉

Sammy Lee may never know of a title being won in October but you could point to hundreds being lost. It's a defining month where very little seems to be going our way.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom, but neither am I optimistic we'll have a great run of games.

It certainly looks like a season defining month allready.

I just hope we can pick up wins in the first 2 matches and then have a fully fit squad available to pick from.

I agree, but it doesn't always work that well. When Gerrard left the pitch at Goodison we were as good as fucked, I felt real concern that day for our depth beyond him and Torres.
