What is the deal with this lad? Loads of people were raving about him when we're doing the loan deal but he hasn't really done much apart from a couple of league cup goals against WBA's reserves and a two yard tap in against Norwich. Is it just new player/new league or is he not good enough?

I have to say, I thought he would be better than he has shown. I'd surprised if this loan deal is turned into a permanent contract based on his first few months at the club.

Will he be kept?

Sahin: Their styles are new to me

Nuri Sahin admits he is having to get used to new styles of play in England.

The Turkey international has featured 12 times since signing a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid.
Having already impressed football audiences in La Liga and Germany's Bundesliga - where he was voted best player in 2011 - Sahin is now settling into life in the Barclays Premier League.
"It's a very tough league and every team has their own style," he explained to the matchday programme ahead of the Southampton clash. "I have never played in games such as the ones against Stoke and Everton before.
"Each team has their own style and these are all things that are new to me.
"That is probably the thing that has surprised me most but also makes me happy because it's a very tough league and every team has its own story."
Sahin has already struck three times during his loan spell but, rather than aiming to show people he is 'the man', his focus is on helping Brendan Rodgers create a unique style of football at the club.
He said: "Of course it was nice to score goals but for me it is just as important to play my part in helping us control the game, play nice football, pass the ball well and establish good teamwork.
"For me these things are more important than only scoring goals and looking like, 'Yes, I am the man.'
"It's key that we really play as a team and have something special that other teams don't have.
"We want people to watch us and say, 'Oh, it is Liverpool, they are playing their way.'
"I came here because the manager told me how he wanted to play and it's important for a player to have that knowledge. You have to make the right choice because I'm not the kind of player who can play in a long-ball side.
"The way that Brendan wants to play is one I'm comfortable with."
Sahin has been deployed in different positions within a midfield three, though he admits his natural role is holding.
"I've played my whole career deeper and that's my position," said the 24-year-old. "But I have also played as a No.10 here. It was new for me but I tried to help the team and do my best.
"But if I could choose a position it would be holding as I feel more comfortable playing deeper."

but he is better than his current showing. its a bit disappointing

Yeah he's not exactly set the pitch alight. He doesn't look out of place though and I predict as the season goes on and he gets more games he will improve.

I guess we'll see. He needs to be doing a lot more than what he doing at the moment thats for sure.

To the point the club will spend the cash to keep him?

I think I'd prefer we didn't. He wouldn't be cheap, and we've got Lucas, Allen, and Henderson all covering similar positions and all with years ahead of them, plus a couple more youngsters who are liekly to come through soon. If we want to spend money on a midfielder I'd much rather we went for Derby County's excellent 17 year old Will Hughes, who'd be cheaper and command much lower wages.

Reading a lot about Hughes alright. Hadn't seen anything posted about him here.

PESAM !!!???

You don't get to be player of the year in the german league (in 2011), considering some of the players that are currently playing over there, and you don't earn a move to Madrid if you're 'shit'. I suspect he's a quality player, whether he'll fit into our system, and playing in this league, is another matter. I'm guessing he'd need games for a start which at the moment, he's not getting. If you consider shelvey has had 12 games, and been shite for at least half of those, I'm not sure why he's not getting a shot, or Assaidi.
I think he'll probably end up being brilliant, but sadly, probably not for us.

Its an interesting perspective of the challenges facing a player from a different league ... and culture. I agree with Mors' assessment. I'd like to see Şahin succeed here, but time is already running out.

Apparently 8 goals and 13 assists in 40 games wins you the best player in Germany award. Gerrard would have walked that award for a decade if he'd have played there. Sahin has done next to fuck all since coming here, I wanted him to succeed but he hasn't, nor will he get enough chances before the end of the season to do so.

What was it we paid for him £2m upfront and £100k a week? Money well spent?

Innit?

And don't forget they gave the European Player of the Year to Iniesta with his 2 goals and 9 assists in 49 games last season. Feckin' clueless, I tell you.

Gomes, Robben, Ribery, Muller, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Gotze, Hummels, Kagawa, must have all had an off season for a player as shit as Sahin to be player of the season then. He obviously did naff all else apart from those assists and goals. Just like Gerrard used to do 5yrs ago when he was carrying us, obviously in the games he wasn't scoring or assisting, he was doing naff all.

I agree he's done next to fuck since being here though. But so have plenty of players coming from foreign leagues, ronaldo and henry to name a couple. And on the the other end you have players like veron and forlan, that did it everywhere apart from here.

I think it's too early to write him off. If he gets the same amount of games this season that shelvey gets (unwarranted) and still fails, then fair enough, he's had a fair crack.

I agree it is a waste of money in terms of the return we are getting from the player but at least we didn't go any buy the guy like we did with Carroll & Aquilani. Pay them top wages over a 4/5 year period whilst loaning them out a few times. These loan deals are good in the regard, particularly when it comes to guys with no Premier League experience. It looks like we're learning....

Lucas was always supposed to be the foundation stone upon which the rest of the midfield was built. Now he's finally back we can see where Rodgers really wants to deploy the likes of Gerrard, Allen and Sahin. I like Sahin. Obviously he's looked a bit dazed so far and has struggled to cope with the pace, but he's very classy and intelligent and I hope he gets more time (and a bit more patience, too!).

The reaction and diagnosis is quite typically misplaced - 'he can't adapt', 'he's a shithouse', 'he's tidy and good in possession but offers little else'.

That's really not the issue. Yeah, he's looked a bit rusty, and who wouldn't, having played just 4 games last season, and coming into a completely different league. But the real issue is where we've been playing him most of the times - at the highest position in midfield. It's ridiculous. Anyone read that Daily Mail article on he says he hates playing the no. 10 role, and prefers the deeper position. I've been saying that for about 3 months now. And before anyone says that's making excuses, it isn't.

Remember Pires in the first six months. He was played out on the touchline, he was timid and tidy and did little else. A few months, Wenger shifted him a little centrally, and used Cole and Henry to provide width on the left, and hey presto, Pires transformed magically into one of the best attacking midfielders of the PL era.

Remember Silva in his first six months - played out on the wing, ridiculed for being too small and weak to play in the centre. I remember Brendan used to regularly rip into him - said he wouldn't cut in the middle. A year on, he's shifted to the centre, and he's the best fucking attacking midfielder in the league inspiring City to their first ever title win.

Six months, or in Sahin's case, four months, is way too previous to be judging a technically sound foreign midfielder coming into the league for the first time, and being played out of position.

Give him the year at least. And give him a run of games in the centre of the park with a holding player like Lucas or Henderson. None of this, he's too lightweight or he's a shithouse nonsense. That's the role he established himself as one of the best midfield talents in Europe as. And that's the only role he's going to prosper in.

He has REALLY struggled with the pace though Macca. I remember Glen Whelan gliding past him with ease when we played Stoke.
I think it is fair to expect him to have performed better than he has so far.

Do you think the club will look the make move permanent?

What would we do with his measly 2 goals? Joe Cole has already given us that!

When you have someone who scores 90 goals a calendar year goals from anyone else in the team is just a wee bonus.

Unfortunately we aren't in that position.

Not unless he improves dramatically, as you suggest. But I think he can. I HOPE he can. No, I think he can!

I've seen him 3 times and have not being overly impressed BUT I'm led to believe he is a huge talent so there's every chance that I've just watched some of his less effective games. Considering he's only 17 he's bound to have a few off days so I'll keep watching to see what the fuss is about.
