City admit Lampard loan error

Manchester City have admitted that they erroneously claimed Frank Lampard was on loan from New York City FC.

The club have moved to clarify the situation surrounding Lampard after the Premier League confirmed that he is only contracted to Manchester City, and that the former England international did not have any formal contract with the new MLS franchise.
Now City say that Lampard instead agreed "a head of terms commitment" with NYCFC that began on January 1 that has now been extended until the end of the Premier League season.
A statement issued on Friday by the club said: "The statement on the NYCFC website in July saying Lampard’s two-year contract took effect from Aug 1, 2014 was a mistake. [The] initial statement on City’s website that it was a loan was also an error.
"There was a head of terms commitment from Lampard to join NYCFC from Jan 1, 2015. That was extended to the end of this season. Any contract with NYCFC will now take effect from July 1, 2015."
The New York team, which debuts in Major League Soccer in March, announced last July that Lampard signed a two-year contract, and used it to promote the sale of jerseys and season tickets.
Shortly after that, Manchester City announced Lampard was returning to the Premier League on loan to stay match-fit for his New York debut.
Lampard's seven goals have been valuable to City’s defence of the Premier League, and the English club announced on 31 December that he was staying in Manchester for the remainder of the season.
On Friday Lampard issued a statement of his own, in which he insists there has been no issues between the two clubs.
"I want to make it completely clear about my situation as I have read a lot of lies and nonsense over the last few days. When released from Chelsea last year at the end of my contract, I signed a commitment to play in NYCFC for two years starting 1 January 2015.
"I was then offered the opportunity to train and be part of the Man City squad in the interim to keep myself in the best shape going into New York," he wrote.
"This period has since been extended by Manchester City and I will now start playing for NYCFC at the end of the current Premier League season. There has always been a constant dialogue between all parties in this time to find the best solution for everyone.
"I can say that I am very excited about arriving in New York and giving everything to the team to make us a success in the MLS as soon as possible."
 
Hahaha ! Well if the PL & FA are willing to accept that.

I can see a Class Action against NYCFC in their future.

Modern football is ace, isn't it?

Gerrard could feasibly leave after signing for la galaxy & end up playing for City or Chelsea against us.

The worst thing in all this is that NYC FC heavily promoted their "signing" of Lampard last year and sold a lot of season tickets to fans who expected to see Fat Frankie play for the team from the start of the season.

I guess maybe now that the fans here in the U.S. are getting shafted by these teams/leagues just like in Europe maybe it's a sign that football has finally arrived in the U.S.

That's what I was talking about with 'Class Action'. Unlike in the UK I can see the American fans actually standing up for themselves.

They have a massive benefit in that they can genuinely vote with their feet.

Whilst I'm sure they have some die hard fans, as the clubs are all so new they can pull their support much easier than most fans could do with Liverpool.
 
Can't see them having too many die hard fans really. Might have to play some matches first .
 
David Villa is contracted to NYCFC aswell but loaned out to Melbourne City FC.
Another club City Football group own.
