North Korean baseball players

Apologies - this is a really weird request, I know - but does anyone happen to know of any North Korean baseball players? The thing is, I'm doing some work for Amnesty International, editing a book of all the best routines from all the secret policeman's balls, and there was one sketch in the recent New York show that featured Rex Lee (from Entourage) as Kim Jong-un. At one point he mumbled the name of what he claimed was a great North Korean baseball player. Now I've no idea if that name was made up or a reference to a real player. The only clue as to what the name could be - he wasn't very audible - is that it has to fit a gag about 'who's on first' - so presumably it ends in 'Hu' (??). Any baseball experts here for whom that rings a bell? If anyone knows I'll make sure you get an acknowledgement in the book. I'm searching everywhere and any info would be invaluable!

Do players who were born in Japan to Korean parents count? If yes, then your man is Masaichi Kaneda, 'the Emperor.' He was born Kim Kyung-Hong (his Korean name) ... Considered the most dominant pitcher in Japanese baseball

I'm not sure mate - the maddening thing is he just might have made the name up - but that's really helpful, thanks! If you pm me your full name I'll add it to the list!

One of my best friends is a Sinologist in the States and has interests across Asia. I'll see if she can source any info.for you.

Are you sure it wasn't a reference to one of the many "achievements" Kim Jong-Il had?

-Once hit a bunt walk-off grand slam...when he wasn't even playing baseball.

No, I've been going through the footage over and over again. It's a joke, but I'm just not sure if the player is real or invented!

No, nor have I, but apparently there are some these days. I suspect it's just a made-up name but I feel I have to check just in case. Thanks for your efforts!

It's a old Abbot and Costello routine so I doubt there's a real player behind it
