EPL Form guide (last 8 games)
P W D L S C +/- Pts Record
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 Arsenal (2) 8 5 3 0 15 5 10 1.87 0.62 2.25 18 DWWdWWwD
2 Liverpool (6) 8 5 2 1 14 7 7 1.75 0.87 2.12 17 WlDwWWwD
3 Man Utd (1) 8 5 0 3 20 11 9 2.50 1.37 1.87 15 llwWlWwW
4 Chelsea (4) 8 4 2 2 15 8 7 1.87 1.00 1.75 14 WdLwwWlD

Intersting innit. Still dropping points against the W teams and beating the big 4 rivals.

Liverpool have taken 10 points in matches v traditional Big 4 rivals - more than Man Utd 6, Chelsea 6 & Arsenal 4.

Our problem has always been the so called "lesser" team.

However, our run of form is encouraging.

id like to say that we struggle to break down defensive teams.. however we have been outplayed several times this season by the lesser teams.

I'm hoping carroll becomes our 'flat track bully' especially away from home.

With us having 9 games left and Spurs 10 with 6 additional points we are highly unlikely to make fifth, and hence a Europa League place, even with this form. By a quirk of fate we play Spurs at Anfield on the penultimate game of the season.

If only we'd sacked Budgieface in November 🙁

On the positive side it will mean more rest midweek for our first teamers next season (unless we win the Europa wotsit this year of course!)

Spurs:

19 March (H) West Ham,
2 April (A) Wigan
9 April (H) Stoke,
17 April (a) Man City
20 April (H) Arsenal
27 April (H) West Brom,
30 April (A) Chelsea,
7 May (H) Blackpool,
15 May (A) Liverpool
22 May (H) Birmingham City,

We could still win Europa League spot by winning it this year.

I think it's crucial to be in a European competition. It will be interesting to see whether Kenn will be focussing on this competiton.

So lets say they walk away with 14 points from those 10, which I think is more than possible. we need 20 (21 if gd doesnt improve for us a fair bit) from the following games

Sunday, 20 March 2011 Sunderland v Liverpool, 13:30 Draw
Saturday, 2 April 2011 West Brom v Liverpool, 15:00 Win
Monday, 11 April 2011 Liverpool v Man City, 20:00 Draw
Sunday, 17 April 2011 Arsenal v Liverpool, 16:00 Draw
Saturday, 23 April 2011 Liverpool v Birmingham, 15:00 Win
Sunday, 1 May 2011 Liverpool v Newcastle, 12:00 Win
Saturday, 7 May 2011 Fulham v Liverpool, 15:00 Win
Sunday, 15 May 2011 Liverpool v Tottenham, 15:00draw
Sunday, 22 May 2011 Aston Villa v Liverpool, 16:00 Win

18 pts right there, we fall 2 points short. So we really need to win 7 of our remaining 9 games to stand any chance based on the above sets of predictions.

We need one hell of a run in to stand any chance of fifth .

if we're talking about overtaking spurs in 5th for uefa then we may as well be talking about overtaking chelsea in 4th for CL as they are on the same amount of points.

Two games in hand Spidey, is the key-area of concern with regards to overtaking the Chavs.

... and who do you think is likelier to implode in these last 10 or so games? Chavs have just added two world class players to their squad and their recent form is good (they are fourth in the 'last 8 games' form table in the OP).

If we don't qualify for Europe next year, and we have this squad plus another couple of quality players - with just 38 games to concentrate on, we could all be thanking Hodgson forever for his part in us winning the league!

and will we be able to attract top players with no european football on the table?

they're based in london.

Liverpool under Dalglish, with rejuvenated form is exciting to 99% of the players on the planet. You're not going to entice many who are first choice in a club already playing in the CL - but then when have we ever done that anyways?

I mean, Torres, Suarez, Carroll, Alonso, Masch, Garcia, Reina - these are our top signings of the past decade and non of them were at CL clubs when we bought them. More of the same is all we need.

Pedantic correction. Ajax were in the CL this season

Cool. Glad to be corrected on this... Coz if anything the fact that Suarez and Ming have left clubs in the CL to come to us when we're in a mess shows just how big of a deal we are and what they believe we will be again.

Given we took 17 points from the last 8 games (Draws with Everton and Wigan, loss to West Ham), 20 pts from the next 9 wouldn't be unrealistic, just unlikely.

this is true but if the player we chase (hazard for example) are presented with a choice of a club with european football and a club that is not, then hopefully kenny's persuasive powers are as legendary as his footballing ability.

If a team presses our midfield they invariably outplay us. Better teams think it's below them to do that so we do well against them

it's diffcult to know which is a greater priority, a dominant holding midfielder or a wide player of quality (to make the best use of our 35 million pound striker).

Agreed. There's a few toughies in there.

To be honest, the West ham performance has made me think we've got zero chance, nowhere near consistent enough, although I'd love to be proven otherwise.

To be honest, after the season we've had I'd be happy to finish 6th, hot on the heals or 5th and 4th. Anything above 6th would be a mega achievement.

Lets not forget we were in the bottom 3 in October.

If we finish 6th and someone in the top 5 wins the FA cup then we'll get a europa spec anyway.
[/quote]

That's only if the team that loses in the final isn't also in the top 5.

Otherwise the losing side gets the Europa league seeding.

Will need an Arsenal/United -v- Man City match up then.

I see no reason why that cant happen either, Irish_Red.

City are more than capable of beating Reading and then West ham or Stoke.

Likewise Arsenal or United should beat Brum (probs not arsenal) and Bolton.

Brum could also be in the final, surely?
