Nike to donate 60M a year to United

What's the difference?

They've always been a force in the transfer window, the only thing that's changed is potentially the source of that transfer kitty.

From Moyes unsubtle hints in Jan it was always looking as though they had a big summer planned which is obviously a concern. The solace I will take is that we've experienced first hand how difficult it is to add real class to an average squad without champions league football to boot.

Then there's the inevitable gamble of big player transfers and settling in / grace periods and all of a sudden it's not looking so easy

Fergie is always had that very strong core to his squad, that was the constant throughout his tenure, it'll certainly be interesting to watch utd this summer as they desperately need those 2-3 dead certs on the team sheet to get back in real top 4 contention.

They'll probably overspend on both wages and transfer fees this summer in an attempt to quick fix the situation and get back into the European Cup as soon as possible.

They're close to being debt free as well - they've paid something stupid like 500m in interest over the Glazer years.

Money won't be a problem for them - and as much as that gives a manager opportunities I think it makes them a bit lazy too.

They have to totally rebuild their defence from scratch, there midfield isn't in a much better situation and RVP will be on his way too.

Regardless of money that's a pretty tall task

That the debt is 350Million +

Ross, I thought they were still 380 million in debt now if that is near debt free then we see debt free completely differently.

They 'usually' make a small'ish profit each year after they've paid off some debt and the interest, say about 20mill or something. Even with their new sponsorship coming on board, it will be quite some time before they get anywhere near debt free. And factor in they've just spent 70mill in 2 windows (unusual for them), and they've had to pay off staff leaving, new contracts for rooney and nani etc, and they're going to have to spend ridiculous money in the next window, I'd expect them to have a pretty sizeable loss on their next set of accounts.

The other day they were linked to Vermalen as a replacement for Vidic.

That would be encouraging for the likes of us.

They've got a massive task ahead to rebuild but money goes a long way to solving those and if they can chuck it about then they'll do it eventually.

Even Utd become debt free, what's to stop the Glazers in the future heaping more debt against united in order to aid their business interests?
I honestly don't think money is a problem utd anyway, they have loads of it and will spend loads in the summer to ensure they get CL league but it all depends on who they buy and who managers them for me.

Wasn't that massive write down of debt in 2010 via a bond issue which they pay £45m a year interest upon. Forgive my lack of understanding of financial things but doesn't the actual bond value of around £500m have to repaid in 2017 ?? Is that not how bonds work ? Isn't that a somewhat of a worry if you're a Man U fan ?

They bought them all (I think) back using a loan with a lower rate of interest.

They'll be a good few million down next season if they don't make top four. And whose to say those deals won't plummet in value if they fail again next season. Yes, I'm sure all the pundits will predict how they'll be back next season etc, but I'm not convinced. If they don't get top four this season, who will they attract? New management and playing style etc. Other teams movin onwards and upwards etc. They could be out of the champions league for a while, and it will hit them harder than most.

Nike would be better using the £60M to pay off the kids in the sweatshops an extra penny an hour to fit a magnetic device in the ball for utd to win
