Kenny Huang has told Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson he can buy anyone he wants ... including Barcelona star Lionel Messi!

The Daily Mail says Hodgson will be given the freedom to pursue any transfer target he wishes if the latest move to oust Liverpool’s American owners proves successful.

On the day Fernando Torres returned to Anfield, billionaire Chinese businessman Kenny Huang has contacted the club’s bankers with an opening bid to seize control and has outlined ambitious plans to revolutionise their fortunes after a worrying fall from grace last season.

According to sources close to Huang, who is head of Hong Kong investment company QSL Sports Ltd, Hodgson could identify any player in the world, and the new regime would check on availability and an asking price.

"It could be Lionel Messi, and every effort would be made to sign him," said one source. "This guy is deadly serious about taking over and wants it done this month so Roy can significantly improve the team and go into the season with a realistic chance of winning something."

I could do that:

"He'd cost £100m. We can't afford him. He isn't available and wouldn't come anyway."

It's shit like this that makes me very worried about this latest shyster.

Let me get this straight.

He is using under-handed tactics to probably save what 50 million pound? Yet, he is willing to throw money away like Chelsea and City on 100 million pound players?

If he can spend insane amount of money on one player after purchasing the club. He can also spend insane amount of money on a club full of players. If he had that kind of attitude and that kind of money, he would have completed the deal by now. So what is missing here?

I don't recollect Abromovich and the Sheik who bought City haggling for a few million bucks and dithering over completing the deal. They had money, they got the deal done quickly.

Pfft, what about signing Snoogy Doggy.

They did deliver at least two Snoogy Doggy

Torres and Mascherano.

I can't see any clarity or sanity whatsoever here! Only big talk from a potential investor about whom we know little and are unlikely to find out more ..... ever. I am afraid that this could be a case of "out of the frying pan into the fire."

It would be interesting to know who the other 5 bids have come from.

We didn't know Torres was snoogy doogy then though. He was someone with a lot of promise, but that no-one knew was someone who would be so prolific.

That's it. Even this chinaman will not trust this chinaman

Obviously I don't have anything against a Chinese owner, but there are some warning signs about Mr. Huang. For one thing, he and his companies appear to be so close to the Chinese government that it seems that his purchase of the club might be in effect the Chinese government buying the club. For another, his holdings in U.S. sports clubs are minority investments so that he doesn't actually own or control any of them.

Warning signs? There are loud fog horns of impending danger ahoy. Ship sinking danger! The good ship LFC will be sunk in his hands.

He still cost over 20m quid

Man utd had paid 30m for a defender years previously. 20m wasn't snoogy money, even if it was a considerable wodge.

I don't recall it either, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Those guys didn't make their fortunes by automatically paying the first price quoted for whatever they were after.

There's no promise there to sign Messi anyway, just a promise to "make every effort" IF that's who Roy wanted. It's just a sales pitch.

The timing of this puts us in a shitty position.
*IF* it manages to go ahead then great we can buy a decent player or two for vastly over-inflated prices, but I imagine none of us will give a crap cos it's not our money and there will apparently be a bottomless pit of money.
When it doesn't happen, Roy will have 2 weeks to secure the signatures of a few players in key positions and should he fail to do that we will go into the season, much like last season short of the players required.

I didn't realise that 'snoogy doogy' transfer targets had been qualified that accurately

[/quote]

Don't be embarrassed about it. An understanding of the 'snoogy doogy quotient' is rare indeed.

Asim, what you say assumes everything will go on hold in the meantime, which won't necessarily be the case.

Besides, we started last season only one Xabi Alonso short of a squad which damn near took the title the season before. Obv.Alonso was a big, big miss for us BUT we could and should still have done way better with the squad we had. I don't think we need to panic.

JJ, I assume it won't go on hold but it's gota take a few days to put bids and what not in. Whats the point in bidding for a 5million player and then getting the money to buy a 30 million pound player.

We were also short of a decent back up striker or two and a decent Left winger as Riera wasn't going to play.

Actually it makes alot of sense, by bringing in big name players using the funds at his disposal a new owner increases the brand recognition of a club and thereby its revenue streams while also putting assets on the balance sheet and increasing the value of the club overall. There is nothing to be gained by the club if he spends the money lining the pockets of G&H

And as far as i recall Abromavich waited til Chelsea were on their knees financially before taking the club over for a nominal sum plus the offer to clear their debts, he didnt overpay for them at all

Given the choice between money being spent on the team or the owners its a no brainer

Kenny Huang seems to be business savvy if his approach to RBS is legit. They are quite clever to go public to ensure that they public backing from the fans and apply pressure on the Board to sanction a quick sale.

The Messi sales pitch is simply to let us know that there plenty of cash for players and a stadium. I'll believe it when it happens.

Huang seems to be a publicity whore, and he has no chance of getting the club at the value he's suggesting, because it grossly undervalues the club.

I haven't found the whole thing very encouraging at all. There are a billion unknowns... he's a heading a consortium, made up of who? What is their management structure? Will they all have a say?

IF this is all true, how much would we be willing to pay for Messi?

If money is not object I think I would pay whatever Barca wanted which would probably be in excess of 80m, probably 100m. Would people be happy with that? Putting aside my morals as a human being and thinking only as an LFC fan I would be delighted if we had messi.
