New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Bill Parcells are planning to meet in Florida this week to discuss the possibility of Parcells taking on the role of Saints interim head coach this season, Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reported Monday.
Parcells told The Associated Press that the Saints haven't contacted him about possibly coaching the team. But he said Payton has spoken to him about how to handle the upcoming 2012 season.

Nah, surely not......

Would be funny to see the Tuna back though.

We didn't talk about that ... Payton banned for the year, Greg Williams for minimum a year and their GM for what was it, 6 games? I wonder how hard they'll hit their players?

The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium in the 2012 season-opening NFL Kickoff game on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 8:30 p.m., the NFL announced Tuesday.
The game will be televised by NBC.

The league announced last month that the season opener would be held on a Wednesday instead of the traditional Thursday night kickoff in order to avoid a conflict with President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention the following night.

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams offered cash to the player who struck San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith in the head during the 2011 NFC playoffs, according to USA Today.
According to the video released by filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who was working on a documentary on a former special teamer with ALS, Williams was recorded as saying, “We hit [expletive] Smith right there” as Smith pointed under his chin. Smith then rubbed his thumb against his index and middle fingers in reference to the potential fine, saying “I got the first one. I got the first one. Go get it. Go lay that [expletive].”
During the clip, Williams also mentioned to injure running back Frank Gore saying, “Kill the head, the body will die. We’ve do to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore’s head. We want him running sideways. We want his head sideways.”
The video was released on Thursday morning, the same day Sean Payton and other suspended Saints officials were planning to appeal their bans to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

As a 49ers fan it's fucking brilliant listening to that knowing how the saints lost that game ...haha .

The thing is though , i can imagine there are lots of motivational speeches in all sorts of sports and especially NFL where coaches say things like "kill" the opposition , 'hurt' them and make them know what pain is etc etc but obviously they don't mean it too literally or actually want someone seriously hurt. So parts of that don't sound too bad until he keeps repeating to hit the head , that's a bit dirty .
One thing's for sure , i doubt i could ever be a pro sportsperson and listen to 'speeches' like that ..christ it's a load of childish shite , wouldn't motivate me one bit.

DALLAS (AP) -- Former Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano, whose wild sideline antics made him a fan favorite when the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 1990s, died Thursday. He was 68.
Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple confirmed that Avezzano died in Italy. He had moved to Milan earlier this year to coach an Italian Football League team, the Milan Seamen. That team said on its website that Avezzano died of a heart attack. Attempts to resuscitate Avezzano were unsuccessful, the team said.
Avezzano had a 12-year run with the Cowboys and became a popular figure in North Texas. He was the Cowboys' special teams coach from 1990 to 2002, prowling the sidelines as the team won Super Bowls in 1993, `94 and `96. Avezzano was named the NFL's special teams coach of the year three times.
Known affectionately in the Dallas area as "Coach Joe," he maintained a high profile after he left the Cowboys when Bill Parcells was hired as head coach in 2003.
"There are not many days that go by where we are not sharing a legendary Joe Avezzano story or using a trademark Joe Avezzano expression," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said. "He was a wonderful friend. We loved him very much, and he will be sorely missed."
He spent two seasons as head coach of the Arena Football League's Dallas Desperadoes, which were owned by the family of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He became a regular on Cowboys-related TV and radio shows in the Dallas market and opened a "Coach Joe's" restaurant in the area.
"Joe Avezzano was a very special part of our Dallas Cowboys family and our organization's history," Jones said in a statement released by the team. "No one enjoyed life more than Joe, and no one that I know had a greater appreciation for the people that he loved and the lives that he touched. There was no one else like him."
Avezzano also coached special teams for the Oakland Raiders for two years under Norv Turner until Turner was fired after the 2005 season. Avezzano and Turner were on the staff together in Dallas.
"Joe Avezzano was a great coach and a super guy," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "We are saddened by his loss."
In February, Avezzano took over the Seamen. Italians in Dallas threw Avezzano a send-off party before he left, Dallas television station WFAA reported.
"I am the long lost heir to the throne," Avezzano joked, according to the station. "They've been looking for me in Italy for years. Now they've found me and I'm going back and I will return to Avezzano. And that's going to be part of my travels."

RIP Joe

As far as the saints go, i feel everything except the remarks about concussions and ACL's was fine, but you just don't go in aiming for injuries.

Former NFL star Warren Sapp owes more than $6.7 million to creditors and back child support and alimony, according to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in South Florida.

Sapp's $6.45 million in assets includes 240 pairs of Jordan athletic shoes worth almost $6,500; a $2,250 watch; and a lion skin rug worth $1,200.

He also reported losing his 2002 Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his 1991 national championship ring from the University of Miami.

49ers @ packers opening weekend ...pff easy start for Alex and the boys !

Draft is on Thursday ...

I'm hoping the Cowboys manage to get Fletcher Cox ... though he's moved up so far that I doubt he'll fall past the top 10.

I have no clue mate - we need him for in-depth draft analysis.

Eagles, going by most Mock Drafts today, are going to trade up for him ...

The first two picks are confirmed aren't they ?

Luck and RGI3 in that order.

What I've read or listened to lately:

Minnesota are reportedly desperately trying to trade down from 3. Whether they manage that could change the shape of the draft.

Claiborne is expected to drop from his lofty ranking on account of the fact the drop from him to the next CB isn't big at all, and some evaluators prefer Gilmore who is considered next best.

Luck is almost guaranteed 1st place (Irsay said so).

RGIII is next.

Minnesota want to drop, but won't get a good enough offer and will take the USC tackle.

4th will be Trent Richardson (Alabama RB) - he's the best RB by far.

Claiborne will go here I think ... and Gilmore will probably go in the teens

The rumors for a big trade are from Eagles (to get Cox) & Pats (to get Barron)

Todd McShay (ESPN) is saying Minnesota is now leaning towards Claiborne (over Kalil, USC OT). He says there's a chance TB will trade with them to get Richardson, who won't drop to 5th as Cleveland will take him @ 4.

i reckon packers will just miss out on our dream pick shea mcclellin and have to take nick perry, or we could get a RB i guess.

where the hell is MC Golgotha ?

I need him to explain the 49ers picking AJ Jenkins . this wasn't predicted was it ?

ESPN.com's take:

  • What he brings: Jenkins is a smooth route-runner with good size and the top-end speed to stretch the field vertically. In addition, he shows soft hands and good body control. However, for him to take the next step to be an upper-echelon wide receiver, he must get stronger in traffic.

How he fits: At first glance, this position looks like it has good depth, but there are some question marks even though the foursome of Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn and newly acquired Randy Moss and Mario Manningham gives them a lot of different options. Look for Ginn to move mostly to being a return guy and Jenkins could step in as a No. 4 receiver in subpackages and could certainly be insurance for Moss if he doesn't produce as expected. Coach Jim Harbaugh loves to give a defense a lot of exotic looks and multiple formations, and he will use more three- and four-wide receiver sets than you think and now he has the personnel to do it.

Am I right in thinking Miami signed Matt Flynn as QB recently and now take Tannehill with their pick. Strange
