there's been a lot said about our difficult fixture list at the start of the season and that roy needs more time.

our next 5 games are against at best 4 lower midtable/relegation teams and a derby

sunderland home
blackpool home
everton away
blackburn home
bolton away

what would people consider a minimum, surely at least 10 points.

I think 13 points is what we should be looking to get from that. 11 at a minimum.

Oh fuck, we're back here again, talking about how everything will be fine because we'll collect x out of y points over the next 5 games, no the next 5, no, the christmas run in.

But seriously though, we'll climb up to upper mid table now that the really bad fixtures are out of the way.

13 points even 11 is optimistic for most on here.

We can do it but we need to start with 3 from 3 and go from there.

A bit of confidence will go a looooooooooog way.

Look at what 1 goal did for us yesterday.

Wasn't it Shankly that said "first is first, last is a moral victory that is the foundation for future success"?

Seriously though, DB is right, it isn't as bad as it seems, probably. The trouble is we have people one one side looking at the worst case scenario where our club is brought to financial ruin. The most optimistic people have us getting forth. Even the middle ground is pretty fucking depressing, as far as I'm concerned.

A few years ago, the most optimistic posters would have said we would finish champions, now even the most optimistic say we will finish fourth 'easily'.

I really despair at how much we have fallen. Seriously, would our fortunes really improve once we get rid of the Yanks? It really depends on who ends up owning us too right? What if another bunch of fuckers take over our club? Then what?

Fuck fuck fuck.

Ha well I would say it gave us belief to attack and get a 2nd and almost a third and at least create chances.

I want the full quota of 15 points.

sunderland home - Win/Draw
blackpool home - Win
everton away - Draw
blackburn home - Win
bolton away - Draw

11pts would be realistic

but i think something like 9pts would be more of what we will get

Anything less than 10pts would be bad. We should certainly win the home games. What we do away from home depends partly perhaps on Roy changing his philosophy a bit.

Well when you drop points in every single game you're "expected to", the pressure to win the so called easy games increases significantly. There is already very little margin for error.

Those teams are generally mid-table fodder, but have been known to put up a good fight from time to time and we'll need to improve to win, simple as.

We'll need to improve to beat ANYBODY. I mean, we created *one* chance in 90 mins against West Brom at home. We've been awful, and you'd have to be blind to argue otherwise. But hopefully now the days of Pucas are gone, and our best players - Gerrard, Torres, Meireles, Cole - can get used to playing together and find a bit of form and confidence.

Well, that's kind of the point. People are saying we should be expecting close to maximum points, but so far we've struggled against crap opposition as well.

I think 9 points will be a good return, anymore than that will require roy having more ambition away from home...

We can and should win all three home games. We should be capable of at least drawing the away games. 11 points is well within our capability.

Our home form is going to be crucial.

Sunderland will be a tough game. 3 points there would take some of the pressure of and would set us up nicely for yet another home game against Blackpool.

Just playing a couple of more games with the team that lined up yesterday will set us in good steed for the Everton game away. I wouldn't be happy with anything less than 11 points tbh. Maybe even 13 if we are to fight for 4th.

There are some really important weeks coming up, both on and off the field.

15 really. Maybe draw at everton.
[/quote]
This.

11-12 points should be achievable from that lot.

We need points and quickly.

I'm optimistic that we can get 15 but the first 3 games will be crucial. Winning 3 on the trot should instill a winning mentality and who's to say we wont win all 5 games plus the next few?

9 points would prove our ambitions are no longer being a team fighting for European football.
