New transfer prices

I think some of us (myself included) are having a hard time adjusting to the crazy transfer price inflation in the last few years in particular. Let's leave aside the value judgements of whether it's good for the game or not and just try to acknowledge and analyze this new reality. Here's what money could buy you this and last summer:

£5M+ – a young player with lower-mid table potential or an older player nobody particularly wants. Examples: Brad Smith, Younes Kaboul, Llorente (to Swansea)
£10M+ – a high-risk player with potential (Redmond, Hojbjerg, Berahino)
£20M+ – a solid, but either somewhat flawed or unproven in the EPL player (Arsenal's Lucas Perez, Wijnaldum, Janssen, Schneiderlin (to Everton), Nolito, Bolasie)
£30M+ – a relatively high-profile player (Slimani, Benteke, Mane, Kante, Mustafi, Bailly, Moussa Sissoko, Batshuayi, Pickford, Lindelof)
£40M+ – a top-class young talent (Sane, Bernardo Silva, Stones)
£60M+ – a top-class (non-superstar) player in their prime
£100+ – a superstar in their prime, but those transfers almost never happen

Sounds about right? Notice that the categories above reflect the actual prices paid for players in the last 2 seasons, which are always somewhat lower than the selling club's asking prices, for obvious reasons.

Agreed. This season it seems like, at least in England, that everything has moved one category up re prices.

Pickford for 30 mill.
Maguire 17 mill.

Both should be 10 mill lower.

It certainly makes sense in today's market to pump more money into your game development.

Someone will buy a player for 100m this summer

When I first drew a list of out going players, I was roundly mocked at ( other than Ryan who agreed with my prices). However, I now even think I was too conservative on my valuations.
£35-£40m Salah when you look at his stat is actually not bad and probably a bargain when you consider what Polish Pete's and the other Lazio dudes asking prices are.
Mbappe at a £100m plus for an 18 year old is madness which when Lacazette is available for half the price plus add-ons.
The other thing I have noticed which has turned bizarre, is fans patience. In age of instant digital news where almost all the information is spurious and instant, fans expect instant transfers too.

Transfer fees are relative to the amount of money flowing in football at the moment.

If the bottom club in the PL can earn 100 million then the then that will have impact on transfer fees’ and wages.

It seems the rest of the football world has caught up on this, whilst we continue with the low ball transfer policy. It may work with some players / clubs.

Everything is inflated but to me, and i've said this before, post Soccernomics i think a lot of clubs moved towards signing younger players and that has increased the value of younger players (on professional contracts) more significantly.

Pickford and Maguire this week being good examples.

As @Oliver Twist has said - this year the broadcast revenue for all clubs is going up significantly which means all PL teams are now ready to throw cash around. This makes the PL as a whole more competitive against other European clubs, but pretty mad that inter-PL transfers are also hitting ridiculous fees.

£50m - once in a generation u16 talent (Junior Vinicius)
£100m - once in a generation u18 talent (Mbappe)

British players will always command a premium, hence why they those 2 players seem like a bargain. Maguire will be a 30 million player next summer.

You said 10 million for Wisdom the other day.

With the lack of players coming through the club's youth system (chicken and egg situation), the need to spend to get home grown players increases too .

I still find the hype and money around Mbappe incredible. He has played 19 games. Is that enough to be certain he is going to be such a star?

Andre Silva (21) - €38m
Patrik Schick (21) - €30.5m (reportedly a done deal)
Franck Kessie (20) - €28 million
Victor Lindelöf (22) - €35 million

All the above mentioned only had 1 season of regular football in the respective top flight. Meanwhile, the asking price for Alvaro Morata is apparently €90 million

You can see why Roma wants 'in excess of €40m' for Salah who has delivered for them over the past 2 seasons (or 2.5 in Serie A - inclusive of his spell at Fiorentina)

On a side note,

I agree 100%

My Sky TV subscription has gone up year on year to about £60 a month now.
And I just swallow it because yay fitbaaa!

This shit is making me want to stop watching even.
Im paying to make these cunts sickeningly wealthy.

Then theres an election and I complain about the haves and have nots.

I need a rethink.

Yep. Stopped watching games on TV years ago. Now either find a stream online or go out to a bar.

60 quid. Get To F*ck. Not worth it.
