My dad sent me the following today:
"The last time Liverpool started the season as badly as this, I was still at school and 17 years or so old. I watched them and cried in my illicit beer. They remained in the second Division, as it was then called for quite a while, from memory 6 plus years, often frustatingly just missing promotion. I watched almost every home game during this this period in the wilderness.Liverpool's star player, arguably the best we have had, was a certain William Liddel, and he had a terrible year.
The purpose of this little history lesson is to remind you that relegation is not impossible. But I do think it is extremely unlikely. I have ordained that apart from winning the UEFA cup, we will have just enough success to avoid the drop . We will then climb back into our rightful place. Keep faith, this will happen."
I think that's right, apart from the winning the UEFA cup part.
Here's the thing, we are massively underperforming. If we even click back to mediocre, we'll comfortably be mid table. Joy.
