Moores is the new honoury life president or whatever it's called.

so it'll probably be Pompey, although the use of 'leading' is a bit misleading.

Soccer-UAE investor buys 60 pct of Premier League club - report
Sun Jun 21, 2009 8:10pm BST

DUBAI, June 21 (Reuters) - A member of a ruling family in the United Arab Emirates has bought a majority stake in an English Premier League soccer club, the official WAM news agency reported on Sunday.

WAM did not name the club but said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi has bought 60 percent of it, adding that details would be announced in a few days.

Sheikh Ahmed, a member of the ruling family Ras al-Khaimah, will be honorary chairman of the club.

Ras al-Khaimah is one of seven members in the UAE federation which also includes key oil producer Abu Dhabi and regional trade and tourism hub Dubai.

Last year Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Masnour bin Zayed al Nahyan bought Premier League club Manchester City, while Portsmouth is the subject of a bid from another Abu Dhabi investor, Sulaiman al-Fahim.

Moores stepped down as Chairman didn't he ?

The timing could be a coincidence ...

I wonder if Moores is ill. His health has been dodgy for quite a few years. Maybe there is a more political reason, but who knows...

Another short article on this states there'll be a press conference to announce more details in the coming days.

We could certainly do with some investment, but I'd prefer it was Share Liverpool.

Which club will an Abu Dhabi investor buy next?

Are there no British billionaires willing to lavish millions on a plaything?

i would not want us to have an investor from the UAE - anyone who invests there will always be second to the makhtoum family who own Man city and are the senior rulers of UAE. If we are going to have investors I would prefer someone from china/india who has wealth and the opportunity to maximise our brand in an untapped market.

Someone just told me he knew about this and that its Everton.
yup thats what I heard too..

While it's a daaaammmmnnnnnn long way from A (here) to B (where my mind has gone 🙁) in this case, if this leads to Everton being able to throw £30M around a summer and not struggle on a shoestring then I think I'd be ill. The tosspot bluenoses never shut up about the shite they've got now (I honestly once heard a guy say "Gerrard's alright, but he's no Arteta" and he was being sincere :🙂), god knows what they would be like if they actually bought a decent player or two, or worse if it led them to another final or something.

A member of a ruling family in the United Arab Emirates has bought a majority stake in a Premier League club, the official Emirates News Agency has reported. The agency did not name the club but said that Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi has bought 60% of it, adding that details would be announced at a press conference this week.

The report was greeted with scepticism among figures with experience of Premier League takeovers. The agency said that Sheikh Ahmed, a member of the family which rules Ras al-Khaimah – one of the UAE's seven emirates – will be the club's honorary chairman.

The prospective new owner of Portsmouth, Sulaiman Al Fahim, is from the UAE but sources close him last night strongly denied any involvement.

According to rumours here in UAE it is a joint owner into Pompeys!
That's a different consortium. Both are mentioned in the same Reuters article with different sheiks heading up each one.
