Real Madrid have cleared the way for José Mourinho to leave the club and take over at Chelsea after the club president, Florentino Pérez, announced that Mourinho will leave the club at the end of the season by mutual agreement. The Portuguese is likely to be replaced by another former Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti.
"We have decided to bring our relationship to an end at the end of the current season," Pérez said of Mourinho. "The club and manager agree the timing is right to bring our relationship to an end.
"On behalf of the board of directors I would like to thank José Mourinho for all his hard work over the last three years. The team have improved in the last three years and we wish him all the best."
The 50-year-old Mourinho has helped Madrid claim three trophies during his three years at the Bernabeu, winning the Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercopa.
But although he signed a contract extension with Madrid last summer tying him to the club until 2016, the season since has been disrupted by fallings-out with key players, among them the captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the fans' favourite Sergio Ramos and more recently the defender Pepe.
Real were unable to defend their league title this season, surrendering it to Barcelona, and were last week beaten in the cup final by their city rivals Atletico - their first loss to their neighbours in 14 years - which saw Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo sent off.
During Mourinho's tenure, Madrid suffered three successive semi-final exits in the Champions League - a competition the club have been desperate to win since their ninth and last triumph in 2002.
Ancelotti has told Paris St-Germain he wants to leave but the move has so far been resisted by the French champions.
The club president Nasser Al Khelaifi told beinsport.fr: "Yes, we had discussions, he asked to depart for Real Madrid.
"I said it is not possible because he has a contract for one year more, so that is our decision.
"It is his problem, it is not our problem. We have offered him another year more on his contract as well as the one he has.
"When you have a contract, everyone is normally obliged to honour that."
Ancelotti said: "We have to decide together. My decision is to leave the club. It is not easy because I have had a very good relationship with everyone.
"It is not the time to explain the reason why I wish to leave the club, and perhaps I will never explain it."
During his three years at Chelsea Mourinho won two league titles, the League Cup twice and the FA Cup before falling out with the owner Roman Abramovich and leaving for Internazionale.

I'd fancy Chelski to win the league next season on the back of this then. Not that managers make a difference 😉 roman will give him bag loads of cash to spend to improve a pretty decent 1st team, and they've got some quality players out on loan. Can't see gollum doing fuck all, arse won't win it, city will give Chelski a run for their money I guess

I somehow think Mourinho going back to Chelsea won't necessarily guarantee them the league. He's destroyed the Real dressing room (dropping crowd favorites and even his own favorites), and he's going to a Chelsea team that have some major holes (a struggling 50 million striker who the owner loves, average CBs, etc). I would absolutely LOVE if he fails there.

I'm sorta with you on that, I'm not sure it's going to be as 'easy' for him as it was in his first spell. If Chelsea hand him a blank cheque then who knows but it'll be one interesting season next year, can't wait. Shame it's only May.

I think he'll set about to dump or alienate the few guys who were publicly sympathetic towards Benitez, and then replace them - that means Torres, Luiz.
This is the list of players signed during his first reign:

2004-05: Drogba, Mateja Kezman, Paulo Ferreira, Ricardo Carvalho, Tiago Mendez, Arjen Robben, Nuno Morais
2005-06: Essien, Shawn-Wright Phillips, Lassana Diarra, Asier Del Horno, Jiri Jarosik
2006-07: Ballack, Shevchenko, John Obi Mikel, Kalou, Boulahrouz, Ashley Cole
2007-08: Malouda, Tal Ben Haim, Claudio Pizzarro

They might have the new Drogba in Lukaku, while Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Moses will provide them the threat that Robben and Duff gave them previously.

I think they have the same needs as us, and will go shop for a solid CB or two, and a strong, physical CM - we won't be shopping at the same place as them anyway, so not much to fear about them taking our targets. Possibly a fullback as well. And of course, a striker.

They have a good U-18 team from what I could see when they beat our kids in both legs of the FA Youth Cup. None of them will probably see the light of day with them spending their way back to the top. I hope we have our scouts out there to look at some of their kids and ready to poach anyone who is good enough but who is dithering on signing a pro contract.

Good post Studsup.

I dont mind taking Luiz and Torres off them, although I can't see Luiz leaving. Mata was sympathetic towards Rafa too, maybe we can get him on the cheap? 😉

Hahaha... unfortunately, I think Mourinho is also a pragmatic man. No way is he going to get rid of Mata, but maybe he'll sacrifice his other Spanish friend Azipeanutella or however it's spelled, just for kicks.

i don't know if i can handle this cunt back in english football . It says it all that this is the only country where the media love him , everywhere else is tired of his childish antics and methods . Plus he's chelsea , potentially the biggest pack of scum known to man .

I'd love it if he goes there , everywhere turns on him and he finally fucks off for good.

The media would love to turn on him, as that will sell papers and air time. The only way that can happen though is if he fails. That means us, Bale FC, and Arse getting our act together and dumping them out the top 4 next season.
