Apparently we are the best team in the world. With the best keeper, the best fullbacks, the best central defender, the best defence and the best attack in the world.
Would this be possible if we didn't have the best midfield?
I think it's about time we started singing the praises of our midfielders a little more.

This is interesting question, I think this whole thing started about 2 seasons ago, when Real Madrid made some derogatory remarks about our midfield in terms of their overall talent. Perhaps they were right then, we only had Milner, Hendo, and Gini for that final, and a combination that in my view was quite dreadful at the time. None of them at the time did anything that would make an opposition team think "shit" we got to stop this guy or that guy from playing. That said, they look a different proposition this time round - there is more fluency and a harder attitude from each one. Perhaps the lack of a purely world-class recognised creative play-maker makes most other teams think it is a good workman midfield but not world-class.

The other reason I say it's an interesting question is that my brother in law and me were discussing the Arsenal's invincible team's midfield, and we were asking if we had to mix this current LFC team with their's who would we have, and in the end would you replace any of Viera, Gilberto Silva, Pires with any of ours ?

Maybe we have the best team in the world and a bunch of players playing to the absolute best of their abilities in a setup that allows them all to flourish?

Yes - that is exactly what it is, out of all the coaches in the world - Klopp is probably a handful of coaches that can do that.

Is there a better three than Gini, Fabinho and Henderson in the premier league or Europe?

The current midfields main job is to cover the spaces to allow the full backs to push forward, which they do well. Don’t expect much creativity there or even goals. Clearly we still want a number 10 to link the play up. Maybe that’s mini

The midfield is basically just a very solid base to allow the really creative parts of the team to function. Clearly our team's one of the best in the world as a whole, but I'm not buying that individually the midfielders are the best in the world in their position. None of them are as good as someone like Modric or De Bruyne or David Silva, but they don't have to be.

It's a tough one. Going individually definitely, but as a collective it's a bit harder. I'm not sure but here are the candidates imo.

Fernandinho, Silva and De Bruyne

Casemiro, Modric and Kroos

Kimmich, Alcantara and Goretzka

Pjanic, Matuidi and Ramsey

Kante, Jorginho & Kovacic is a decent midfield trio.

Fernandinho, D Silva & de Bruyne, even given the age of the first two is formidable.

They’re all different - not better or worse - it other teams certainly don’t have the benefit of our defence or attack.

You could argue that City certainly match us is in attack and midfield - but their defence is no where near as good.

you could argue some of those trios were better but not now. Matuidi and Ramsey??!!

Individually you'd have to say none of ours are among the top 10 or maybe even 20 midfielders in the world. Fabs maybe the closest.

But as a unit and especially considering their interchangeability, you'd have them in with a shout up against anyone.

They wouldn't make a "best 11" but if you wanted to win a match and had stacked the other eight positions, cant go too wrong with our midfield.

it all depends on the metrics for these top midfielder lists, if staying fit, selflessness, teamwork and running your bollocks off were rated more highly a few would drop off the list instantly
