Kinda forget we're playing tomorrow. I know, I know, hard to give a shit etc but would be good to give some players a run out

Mignolet
Manquillo (Who else can we play?) Toure Sakho Enrique
Lucas
Henderson Suso
Markovic
Borini Lambert

Subs: Rossiter, Sinclair (?)

Take Gerrard out and play as strong a team as we can. We need to start building some form and momentum. Obviously if anyone is carrying a knock they should be rested.

I'd take Henderson out as well. No idea who to put in.

Would keep the bench pretty strong.

Gotta send out Bradley Jones for this one, it is probably in his contract FFS! haha

No idea what Studge's injury status is but I'd like to see him on the bench and given 20-25mins at the end.

-------------------Jones---------------
Manquillo--Skrtel--Sakho--Enrique
-------------------Lucas----------------
--------------Hendo--Suso-------------
-----------------Coutinho---------------
-----------Borini---Lambert--------

  • Skrtel needs a bit more match sharpness if he is going to be starting more frequently so I would have him in CB
  • Lucas' best position is DM, if he plays here I think he'll show that he's not completely useless - I prefer him to Gerrard in this position
  • Hendo because we have no other CMs to rotate, would sub him off early as he has played a lot in the past 3 weeks
  • Suso - must be ready for a start
  • Coutinho - needs to gain some confidence so should start
  • Borini & Lambert - gives a chance to show a bit of sharpness ready for Everton to help BR decide who should start with Mario.

I'd also like to see strong subs used e.g. Lallana & Markovic to continue their returns to sharpness. and as mentioned Studge if he is fit to get on the pitch at any point.

I'd wanna rest him as well but who for?

Exactly - I don't know who can replace him. Also - this would give him the chance to wear the captain's armband which i'm sure would be a great occasion for him. Would sub off as early as possible to rest those leggies.

Boro could easily do us if we put out a mix and match team, and that'd be the worst possible prep for the derby.

The core at the back (keeper-CBs-DM) should be the same as we plan to play against Everton. We can try and shuffle it a bit up front.

Do you know if there has been any update on Lovren re: head injury? I'd want to give him some rest ahead of Everton personally.

I'm looking forward to this, I'm expecting outings for Lallana, Coutinho, Markovic and Lambert, as well as the legend that is Kolo Toure, so lots to look forward too. I hope to see a few of the youngsters out there as well, Rossiter playing defensive midfield, give Henderson 60minutes with the armband, and give Enrique a run out, and seems as he only played 20mins on Saturday, let Manquillo have the right hand side. I'm not quite sure how we should line up, even though I'm a big fan of the diamond, i'd probably play 4-3-3 with Lallana and Markovic each side of Ricky, Coutinho tucked behind, with a Rossiter and Henderson making up the midfield. If that's a bit weak, maybe only give Rossiter a 30minute sub appearance and give Lucas some more game time, hopefully Suso will get some game time too. Should be a good watch none the less, and these games are much more interesting now we have a bigger squad.

We should play our two CBs and GK for the Everton game. We need to give the defence as much time together as possible.

But, I think we'll see something like:

Ming
Manquillo Toure Sakho Enrique
Lucas Henderson
Markovic Lallana Coutinho
Lambert

Then hopefully play Randall, Rossiter etc from 60 mins onwards.

Henderson has the energy and engine to play an extra game so play him to anchor the team. Lallana,Lazar and Coutinho for sure too.

I don't mind seeing something like the setup below. Give the back five more time to gel, and also minutes for Lallana, Markovic and Coutinho to get sharper. Maybe unfair to Rossiter to throw him in at this point when our defence isn't settled, but he probably can't do any worse than the seniors in front of him. A good test for him perhaps.

----------------- Mignolet ------------------
Manq --- Lovren --- Sakho --- Moreno
----------------- Rossiter ------------------
--------- Lallana ------ Coutinho --------
Suso --------- Lambert ------- Markovic

Subs: Jones, Skrtel, Enrique, Lucas, Sterling, Balotelli, Borini

-------------------Jones---------------
Stewart---Toure-----Sakho---Enrique
-------------------Lucas-------------------
------------Rossiter--Coutinho-------------
--------Suso---------------Markovic--------
-----------------Lambert---------------------

If we play our "strongest xi" because we want to build momentum and we end up playing wank, we're not left with much. Give players a rest, play some fringe players and some kids and have faith in them that their desire to push their way into the side will see us through.

got a ticket to this one, taking the missus who probably wont have a clue whats going on.... the good news is that I cant remember going to a game where we've lost, the bad news is we've always played shit when I've seen us, a win'll do for me

i actually hope mario starts, I feel like he should play as many games as he can handle, needs to find his rhythm

Whilst I think it looks good on paper I fear Rossiter would get overrun with Coutinho and Lallana less able to support him than others. Would be happy to see that personnel but maybe Suso would be more of a CM with one of Coutinho and Lallana further forward.

Everyone has Mignolet down to start - its the League Cup and we all know that backup keeps get a run out when we draw lesser opposition for no logical reason at all.

Personally I think we would be fools to put out a full strength team with Everton at the weekend and Basle away next Wednesday, two far more important competitions, when we are already struggling with injuries to key players.

------------------------ Jones ------------------
Manquillo --- Lovren --- Sakho --- Enrique

-------------- Lallana ------ Rossiter --------
Suso --------------- Lambert --------- Markovic

Subs: Mignolet, Skrtel, Toure, Borini, Balotelli + 2 from Reserves/Academy : Brannagan, O’Hanlon, Ojo, Trickett-Smith, Dunn, Wilson, Kent and not sure if Yesil is fit year ? Academy experts pick two !

EDITED after reading the BR Injury report below.

Brendan Rodgers confirms Rickie Lambert will start Tuesday's Capital One Cup tie with Middlesbrough at Anfield.

Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson will be assessed this week after Brendan Rodgers confirmed today that the pair have picked up groin and hip injuries respectively.

The former was not included in the matchday squad to take on West Ham United on Saturday due to a groin problem and is 'highly unlikely' to feature in the Capital One Cup against Middlesbrough.

Vice-captain Henderson, meanwhile, will have a hip strain monitored as the manager prepares his squad for the visit of the Championship outfit for a third round tie tomorrow evening.

"We just need to assess one or two," Rodgers explained to reporters gathered at Anfield for a pre-match press conference this afternoon. "Jordan Henderson picked up a knock so we need to assess where he's at. And Philippe Coutinho is highly unlikely for tomorrow as well."

Continuing his update on the options available for selection, the boss outlined how the current situation could provide an opportunity for a number of young players.
"We haven't got any guys returning," he said. "Glen Johnson is still out. Joe Allen and Emre Can aren't fit. Daniel Sturridge won't be fit. Young Jon Flanagan has obviously had his operation.

"So we've got a few injuries to cope with but it'll always give a chance to one or two of our younger players, who are doing very well at the Academy, to get a chance to be in the squad. That's my first look."

Fucks sake! Can broken, Allen broken, hendo broken, Lucas bollocks, gerrard is well....

The last thing we need is to get knocked out the cup so I hope Rodgers doesn't fuck around here.

Let's play as settled a side as we can and try and start on the front foot.
