I doubt this is 'long term' - he's probably pissed he's not been able to win in the final yet again, but if it's the end of his Argentina career, I think it will always be a stain on his otherwise 'GOAT' career.

[article]The national team is over for me. It’s not for me after four finals. The decision is made, I believe. I’m taking this decision for me and for the many people who want this. I’ve tried so hard, but I’m leaving without managing it.[/article]

Fucking hell, lose a final and half your team ... Damn

[article]In an incredible turn of events, Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and FC Barcelona stawart Javier Mascherano both announced they are retiring from the international stage too.

As is that wasn’t enough, reports coming out of South America also claimed that Angel Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gonzalo Higuain and Lucas Biglia are all poised to hang up their Argentine boots too.[/article]

He probably needs extra time to concentrate on his tax dodging.

Yup. 4 finals lost.

Definitely a big black mark hanging over what should be a flawless career.

In a way not surprising.

He plays 50-60 games a season, expected to dominate every game - at 29 I'm sure he just feels burnt out from football.

A good decision in terms of prolonging his career.

Crazy thing is if Messi has actually retired they just bring in Dybala as a replacement - insane depth at their disposal.

Footballers are spoilt brats.

If it doesn't go their way, they moan, refuse to play etc.

Assholes, the lot of them.
