Not much to say except that I love seeing him go on "adventures".
 
Matip has really gone on to the next level as far as I'm concerned. He played within himself and a little unsure in the first part of his career but ever since he has been playing with VVD everything has clicked. Even when he doesn't play with VVD in the odd game he still looks good. For a long time, it was Gomez and VVD but now defo the first choice is Matip and VVD.

PS: what will happen to Gomez? Newcastle? If they offer us 50m+ do we let him go?

Unless we have a replacement lined up we won't sell Gomez. Looks like Philips is the one heading out. I think it's all up to Gomez. If he's looking to get into the national team again he needs to be playing.
 
A brilliant defender, a brilliant player. Absolutely love him.

Best free transfer in the history of the game.........sadly after Lewa.
 
He'll never get the credit he deserves outside of the Liverpool support because he doesn't have a 'name' but yeah when fit (touch wood) he's great.

And for me he's easily been our best defender this season.

Matip puts in the performances every time he plays, For the past 2 years Milners been used mostly as a sub to foul people and get booked. Not to say he’s not a machine or Mr reliable from the spot but in terms of quality on the pitch Matip gives us more.

Ok I get all the injuries he’s had but it’s easy to forget how long Matips actually been around for.

Epitomised by Crooks' 'Team of the Week' that chose VvD over Matip. How on earth anyone watching that match could go with Virgil is unfathomable and must surely be based on reputation rather than performance !

Their performances seem to be inverted. Early doors Milner is what we needed. Mr reliable. Whereas Matip was like a tampon. Even this year is the only year he isn’t getting injured after 4 games.
 
Matip goes on these 'away days' through the midfield. Netzer used to play like that. Won't happen but I'd love to see Joel play central midfield. Hansen used to surge from about the centre circle in a similar way. We miss that when Joel is injured.

Having the skill to spark an attack is a big plus as long as the others cover for him. Great freebie signing.
 
I wish it would lead to a goal though, seems as though he always make the wrong decision with the final ball at the same rate as Ox.
However, always fun when he goes on a run, almost like a horse has been let loose on the pitch at times.

We defo scored from one of his runs a few matches back. I think the ball went out to Trent who whipped it in for diogo maybe?

Yeah I’m sure you are right dude, only really remember the Origi pass in CL final.
He seems to have a run every game and get’s really far and within 5 yards of the 18yard box but then nowt.
Maybe something they can still coach even at his age because rest of it till then is awesome.

Has anyone else noticed that Matip gets pissed off every time the linesman delays raising the flag.
