but but but the lawyer said he HAD to play and that we had to release him.

aw

Actually it would have been a human rights violation and more than likely contrary to employment law in both the EC and the UK to try to force him to play when he's said he doesn't want to play for the country and said he's retired from internationals. He has a right to choose and that's why both Cameroon and FIFA backed down.

I think they realised that forcing Matip to play would just make it worse. It's not rocket science. Who in their right mind would ever play for their nation again if they arranged for him to get suspended?

Why did he retire?
Don't think he has, he just stated that he didn't want to play. Wanted to focus on us.
Btw Cameroon has a terrible team nowadays, going there would be a waste of time.
The days of Kameni, Geremi, Wome, Etoo, Song, Olemebe, Mboma on the pitch are well and truly over.

Algeria, Senegal or Ivory Coast will win it.

He said this well before he joined us (2015) so nothing to do with Liverpool. Said he had retired from International football (I think it was to do with the way he was received either in the Cameroon or by the native Cameroonian players).
According to Wiki : Born in Bochum to a German mother and a Cameroonian father.
