Perhaps, but what is not useful is the rugby tackles that he has largely got away with for the past few years. He exposes the team to the concession of a penalty or a sending off.
I agree with that point & in the last match thread pointed out how much worse it has gotten this season, with the addition of a push against the attacker before making a run at the ball to try to compensate for his lack of pace.
However, he's been getting away with it, & slagging him off for 'gamesmanship' when it's no different to hustling the ball out of play whilst obstructing, or making a meal of a tackle is harsh, even more so before the fact.
If he gets sent off or we concede a penalty, sure, but before he even steps into the pitch I'd like to see him given the benefit of the doubt, he's done enough to deserve it, that's for damn sure.
