-----------------------

Nice to see Wisdom and Coady training with the first team. Wonder if they will play this season?
Carra seems to be fit to play, he is taking part in training. Worried about Carroll. Aurelio is definitely out it seems.

Anyway...

Prediction: 2-1 win (Suarez, Dirk - Jerome)

I wonder what music was being played during the second pic

Anything by madness (except it must be love)

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I thought concussion meant an obligatory 2 week standdown ?

Think'll we'll struggle with 7 first teamers out but edge it 1-0.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

If Carroll is out, I wouldn't be surprised to see Shelvey start. Kenny obviously rates him, and he'd bring a bit more energy to the game than Maxi and Cole.

Also, if Carra is out, I think Wilson should start alongside Skrtel at CB. We already know what the Greek can do (and what he can't), so give the promising youngster a chance in his preferred position.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I don't want to go over old ground again (but will), but I see nothing in Shelvey in the way of pace or energy.

He just seems to lumber slowly around the pitch huffing and puffing after 10 mins. I'd like the lad to do well and Kenny obviously rates him (which means he is a prospect), but it seems to me that a lot of people see in him what they'd like him to be (the new Gerrard, Alonso etc).

Surely Cole would give us a ton more "energy" than Shelvey?

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

Energy and pace aren't the same thing though. Shelvey is painfully slow, but he has no shortage of energy. He won't offer you the dynamism of a Steven Gerrard, but he will run tirelessly all game.

He's also very eager to be involved. He wants the ball all the time. Perhaps it's that enthusiasm that some people are referring to.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I've seen nothing special from Shelvey. In fact I think that Robinson and Flanagan are both better prospects but let's give the lad a chance. CM is not the easiest position to step up to the plate.

Was with you right up till the last line. Joe Cole plays as if he smokes 40 a day.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I can see him getting red carded in the future. Rash challenges and late tackles kinda reminds me of Gerrard in that aspect.
But he's too slow and he holds on to the ball for too long.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

Carroll out according to some "insiders".

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

shelvey getting a lot of stick for a player who hasn't even played 10 games for us. He tries hard and is always available for a pass. The lad could turn out very good. He's still learning the trade of a cm

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I don't entirely disagree, Buddha. I've not been bowled over by Shelvey by any means. He makes way too many wrong decisions, for example, and he's not fast. But he definitely plays with energy and enthusiasm - and at his age, he needs to play regularly in order to improve. Cole is clearly on his way down, struggles to get on the ball when he plays, and will probably be leaving the club in the summer. So it seems an obvious decision to me.

Be nice to see Sterling on the bench?
[/quote]
Didn't see him training with the first team in the pictures, no chance IMO.

I'd love someone on the wing who was actually a winger.

Couldn't agree more but he's just too young to be given a début now.
I wouldn't mind seeing Ince, though.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

I'm not convinced about Ince.

I guess Suso, Sterling or Coady will be the next ones to break through.

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

a bit off topic, but weren't Milner and Lennon about Sterling's age when they broke through?

Re: LFC - Birmingham, Pre match thread

Milner yes, lennon...I'm not sure

Lennon was younger than Milner I think

If so....then yes they must have been!
