Looks like he is off if reports are to be believed ... destination Inter or Barca.
If true, what a massive blow to us.
I can't get my head around it to be honest.
How on earth have we managed to let 2 world class midfielders leave within a season of each other? (Alonso & Masche).
Once again we find ourselves having to spend time in the transfer window replacing a key player.
I had a rant about Mascherano leaving to a friend of mine who supports Barca - and this is what he had to say:

The problem is that your club doesn’t take actions straight away.. when Benitez struggled to win a league title 1 or 2 seasons after winning the champions league, he should’ve been fired and new person brought in, but kept Benitez around, and didn’t win anything for too long and basically I think the players are starting not to believe in the management and board room.
It’s club football, you can’t just keep giving chances and chances to the same guy every season and hope that one day it’ll happen. 1 or 2 seasons without a trophy is acceptable but Benitez got far too long of a chance and I think Mascherano lost hope. Now he just thinks that with Hodgson coming in, it is just a change too late.
I think it’s a joke that your fans idolised Benitez in the way with that plaque and putting him in the same category as Daglish and former great managers that helped Liverpool win not only European success but league as well. Yes he is a great manager but certainly not what Liverpool was all about, which is dominating in England and Europe. That’s the Liverpool of the past.
I worry about your future.
Players do want to win trophies. It’s a fact. Players can’t be bigger than a club. Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi they are nobody compared to the club. If they want to leave then they can. The important thing is you need a good youth development so you can churn out young stars.
